Default 1981 Yenko Turbo Z28

I've been trying to find out about this car but havent found much info on the net or an any of my books. I've only found a few details such as them being turbo'd 350's with automatics, being the last cars Yenko ever built before he sold his dealership, and that only about 20-40 cars were made of the planned 200 model production run. All this info was found on the net and in the MUSCLECAR Color History CAMARO book by author Steve Statham & published by MBI in 1998. I couldnt find anything else about them despite using several search engines and searching this board.
I was wondering if anyone here knew the specs on these 350 motors like which heads/cam etc? Also things such as turbo used, HP&TQ numbers @what psi, & quarter mile/trap mph performance numbers?
Anyone know or has anyone ever even heard of this Yenko Camaro?
Thanks folks! BTW, Im going post this in the 67-02 Camaro section as well to see if anyone there might know

I've personally seen two - one white and the other black. I believe only 13 were built.

Go to www.COPO.com and click on Turbo z28s, lower left of the page.

I've never seen any published specs. Frankly, I doubt Don Yenko ever put one on a dyno. Seems he added the turbo, 'tuned up the motor' and sold them. They were completly legal for the street and came with a full factory warrenty. Sorta like what GMMG has been doing with late model cars.

Thanks for bringing up these special Camaros. They really are rare.

Well damn. Would've been nice to know how a 81 turbo Yenko Z coulda done against the earlier 80's Exotics from Europe performance wise . I agree w/ you on bringin up the rare Maros from all Gens. Love em all!!!!!
I also wonder whatever happened to those 2 specially modified 82 model Z28 Indy Pace Cars that had built 350s in them to keep up w/ the pacing duties instead of that 305 cross-fire thingy
We should start a rare camaro/firebird trivia thread if it hasnt been done yet

For questions on Yenko's..................go to the sYc site aka Supercar Registry.

Here is an article that might help you answer some of your questions.

Default 1981 Yenko Turbo Z28

I thought a had a couple of photographs of one of these Yenko Camaros so this morning I dug through my photographs. Both of these photos were taken by a friend of mine (Jeff Murphy) at the 7th Annual Supercar Reunion in Collinsville, IL (just across the river from St. Louis). Both of these photos were taken in 2004.

There was a white one at the Chevy Vettefest in Chicago a few weeks ago in the Yenko display area.

I don't know how many were made but there was a green one at Chevy Vettefest. It was a sweet little car. I didn't see anything saying how many were made but I doubt many.

Those '81 Yenko Turbo Z's were cool little cars...a buddy of mine here in town owned the white unrestored TZ a few years back, and parked it in one of our buildings with some of our cars, so I got to know it pretty well. It was a *tad* more than just throwing a turbo on...besides the turbo, it also had a water/methanol injection system with a monitor, some high dollar seats, guages, different wheels/tires, special body package & graphics...I wasn't crazy about the 3.08 gears, but the car handled great and was a top end monster. I think magazine tests put it at low 14s back in the day? It would be easy to make one into a pump gas monster...

Hey JD! I've been here for a while, but don't read as much LS1 stuff lately as I used to, since we're almost entirely out of LS1s now...down to only an SS now.
