It's the serial number, every hood and spoiler that was put on every SS has a serial number that had to be reported to GM.

Good Info Dave and thanks for your reply. Who actually manufactured the hood and spoiler?

Thanks for your insight

They were manufactured in our (SLP) St. Henri, Quebec, Canada facility and sent over to our LaSalle assembly facility.

SLP made all of the 96-02 Camaro SS hoods and spoilers, along with all Firehawk hoods, '96-97 WS6 Hoods and more.

Good Info again Dave and Thanks.

If a Legitimate owner needs a replacement Hood/Spoiler, are originals still available?

Yes, they're available from either GM or SLP.

My very low milage 00 SS suffered hail damage. The best local body shop wants to repair the hood and spoiler using body filler which is not acceptable to me. All the GM dealers I've contacted say the originals are no longer available. I want OEM parts to return it to its pristine condition.

Your advice please Dave.....

Year One still sells originals I believe. They are around $700 though.

I got my hood from SLP. I didn't even have to be a legitimate SS owner.

I am guessing that the "pick weight" has more todo with the dimensions of the box and hood and is used for shipping/billing purposes
