What? Does that make any sense?

On mine under the hood latch or the hold down there is a cheaply engraved ss number.

The originals have been discontinued. The part # is 12369963. They listed for $1806.70 when they were available.

Who are you buying the hood from?

A person on here with an camaro SS is selling an SS hood, I just want to make sure if I meet someone and can't actually throw the hood on the car, that I can look for some part number or something and be absolutely sure that its a factory original.

So behind the hood latch I can just look for the part # you listed and I will know for sure?

No, I didn't say that. SS1129 above did. I've never seen any kind of part #s on the original hoods.

I have a original GM still in the box. The sticker on the box says pick weight is 80 lbs. I'am guessing the box weights around 10 lbs. So if you weight it, a GM hood would be around 70 lbs. Hope this helps - don't know any other way except to compare two side-by-side.

Im guessing maybe that when slp made the ss they carved the number into the hood for actual ss cars....maybe not so for just buying hoods, as would make sense.

So this would probably be an authentic SS hood? Found this under the passenger support mount. . .

As I've mentioned, the original hood in the original GM box that I have says 'Pick Wgt 80.00.' Could be Kilograms because it was shipped from Canada. Go figure...........

Its not the part #, nor a SS build #, nor a VIN #. So what does it mean?

It's definitely not kilograms, 80KG would be 176 pounds. It's probably estimated (on the high side) at 80 pounds.
