I have speakers already and now I am looking for an amp that will match them. I just need to know how many channels I am working with. I will be running component set in the doors and subs in the sails. I will also be taking out the hatch speakers. My question is how many channels do I have?

If I understood your first post correctly, four channels. One for each corner. The components are just one channel. Like you speculated, that's where the crossover comes in.

You could just leave the factory 8-channel amp in place. The speakers you bought will work well with the Monsoon amp and should sound good as long as you've replaced the factory head unit. Your choice but don't think that you have to replace the amp just because you're replacing the speakers.

The reason I was going to replace the amp is because I figured the speakers would not have enough power. Is this not the case. The speakers rms are 100 watts and the stock amp gives 30 watts at best. right?

The HU is still factory but I am planing on replacing it with the kenwood 5120 eventually.

I have almost exactly the same setup... Kenwood DNX5120, eD 7kv.2 subs, and CDT components in the door. I am still using the factory amp and I'm quite pleased with the sound quality and available volume (I can get it much louder than I would ever want to listen but then I'm an old fart who doesn't need to shake the windows). The 100W rating is the maximum continous power that the speakers are rated for - it doesn't mean you have to run that much power. The factory amp puts out about 240W RMS into eight channels so that averages about 30W per channel but the sail panel subs get two channels (60W) each.

If you're not sure about it, I suggest you try running off the factory amp and see if you like it. Even if you don't like it, you haven't lost anything - you can always add your amp later. The amp is probably the best component of the entire Monsoon system. It may not be particularly powerful but it puts out a clean signal that is well balanced for the acoustics of the interior.

4 channels but you need crossovers for the components. The crossover takes the frequencies from one channel and splits them between the woofer and tweeter.

the Kicker ZX650.4 is an example of an amplifier you can use. It will allow you to send up to 120W RMS to each 4ohm component speaker and up to 170W RMS to each rear sail panel sub. And like most amplifiers you will get a birth sheet that will state the amp can actually provide 10-20% more power. So with an amp like this your components will be more than happy even though you will probably never run them that high and the amp has a good chance at being able to provide up to 200W RMS to each sub.

I am going to take whitebirds advise and use the factory amp. If I feel the speakers are not loud enough for me I will find another amp.

I went with the Alpine MRP-F300 four channel amp. I have the stock h/u with jbl components and 6.5" kicker subs in the sail panels.
