Default Finished my Double DIN for my DNX 7140

I want to give all of you guys on LS1TECH a big thanks. I got the ideas and info from y'all. Special thanks to whitebird00.

I will post step by step photos and instructions soon, tired tonight. I will probably make another one because I had 2 stock bezels. I made a jig, I think I can knock it pretty fast now.
Please let me know what you think.
Ed
This is the mount

This is the bezel

The top and bottom needed to be slightly larger than the opening to allow the angles that the screen goes through.

The paint was the texture paint from walmart. I got the idea from someone here, but they never mentioned the colors. I bought the grey because it had more texture. I new it was a little too much. So I bought the black for the right color and the texture is too small but it fills in the larger grey texture and kind is a happy medium.

I made the bracket, 16ga sheet metal, I tigged up. I will post directions and lessons learned soon. I will probably make a second bracket to go with the second bezel I make and get rid of them on here.

Thanks for the props, I'm really happy with how it came out, I'm fussy, which sometimes is major expense and pain in the ***!

Very nicely done! As I've seen before, your work is well finished with great attention to detail. I especially like the support bracket. My only concern is that you trimmed the side panels of the support so as not to block the cooling fan on the side at the back of the head unit?

Maybe the 7140 chassis is a little different but the 5120 has the fan on the left side near the back - I remember it was one of the things I preferred compared to the Pioneer (with its fan on the back) because of the limited clearance behind the HU when installed.

If the 7140 has the fan on the back then please ignore my earlier comment.

I know the fan is in the back but there might be side vents. I though there was a lot of room in the back.
I notice and now I can't find, didn't you mention you figured out how to display the background picture completely. Basically hide the controls and such.

If you can cut two pieces of metal, make two bends, and drill some holes, you can make your own brackets. It really is that easy. I made my own. You don't need a shelf like he did. His bracket/shelf is more complicated because he needed more clearance and the stock shelf broke so his bracket incorporates a new shelf.

Here is where he talks about it:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...din-mount.html

Here is my write-up for installing a Pioneer AVIC-D3:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...installed.html

I made my own simple brackets.

Here is a pic of the brakets:

Thats why I thanked everybody, no sense in re-inventing the wheel.
I totally agree, I always over engineer the **** out of everything! If your shelf stays intact those style brackets were what I was going to use.
A side benefit of my shelf busting is, I think my unit is slightly(very slightly) lower which helps with the bezel.

PS I have this jig theory in mind. Whats the opinion is there a need for a bracket+double din bezel combo for say $100.00 with bezel core and $125.00 without. I figure a week to 10 days tops for turn around. Just spitting out the idea.
But my thoughts are the bezel would be say .005 " oversized/undersized(?) and the installer would flat file to fit. The fact their is small variations between location and cars that would be the best way for it to be high quality fit. If one is careful filing doesn't even effect the front finish.

Opps top secret jig!!! Can you tell I found the benefit of photo bucket. I put photos on everything, so annoying.

When you have a music source playing, press and hold the top left corner of the screen where it says the source name. After a few seconds the controls will disappear leaving only the background image.

So I looked through both threads and I didn't see this anywhere. But how does that bracket mount above the shelf?

So how is the HU secured to the bracket? Is there tabs on the unit that hold it in place like a regular dash kit?

Is it those holes on the right and left side to screw some screws in?
