using a laptop with dvd head unit
is there anyway i can use my laptop with a dvd headunit to play mp3, mp4 and possibly use it with other programs to control other things in the car? (heat, navigation, upload appearance settings)

so you want to plug your laptop onto your headunit to control those things? If so, no. As far as using it as an auxilary source, for video and music input to the screen, yes. You would need a computer vga cable to 3 rca (yellow, red, white) audio/video cable.

Yea, like pheer said, you will need something completely integrated into the car's computer to do what your looking for. Possible? yes. Cheap? prob not. IMO, its a bunch of custom programming into some software.

it IS possible and has been done on almost every car out tehre.... jus search for it...
as far as price goes, it's as cheap as you want it... if you really wanna be dumb, you can build the uber-whacker 4000 and wire it into your car so you can play the latest and greatest games...in your car.... or, take it down a notch and build a small media machine.... either way, the price is up to you, the work involved is where the expense comes in.... wiring and tedious labor.... not to mention the custom programming, as bmnicolosi stated..... good luck tho if you go that route...
once you get one of those working tho, it makes it all worth it

if all you need to do is be able to see the computer screen on your dvd screen. you can just buy the j link connector box, it has like the s video, aux, rca, i pod, and probably by now vga mine is like a year old so it just has all the first things i mentioned. 50 bux tops
