In the past some friends have burned me some CD's that played just fine. My car will play original CD's just fine but when I burn them in iTunes it wont play them. I get error E20. I had some cheap memorex cd's at first. I just picked up some verbatium and it wont read those either.

My car is just a TA, it doesn't have the monsoon system, any advice?

You got me, I didn't see that one coming. I guess I had it coming tho. I have an ipod hook up in the 01 but I'm trying to get the 96 all working and running for my dad and there is no way he is ever going to be able to figure out an ipod!

Anyways, any input on why the burned ones wont play?

The older factory head units are somewhat sensitive to the type of burned CDs used. They have to be recorded as audio CDs not MP3 or other formats. Also, the recording speed can make a significant difference. Recording at 10x or less will help.

Thanks for the tips guys. I tried the above and still no go. I read in another post that I need to find some CD's that are dark on the back side instead of the shiny green looking stuff.

I have tried several brands and variations so far but they are all shiny green tinted ones. Does anyone know the "darker" ones that I read about?

It's (generally) not the physical material, but rather the formatting of the CD itself.

Find out how to use your hardware and software to properly format your burned CD so it exactly mimics a factory-issued CD and it will work.

I know this because my wife (an IT geek) burned the same music several different ways until she found the settings that worked on MY 96 CD player.
