I don't have that unit, but I do have XM....
Reception is more dependent on the antenna than the radio.
I haven't driven through a major city in a while (driven through smaller cities). If I remeber correctly, reception was fine due to ground repeaters. Although bridges and tall buildings can cut the signal, but dont always.

I have the original Roady and I'm very happy with it. The biggest difference with the new one is that it has built-in wireless FM modulation which is convenient if you move it between vehicles or you don't have a cassette player. However, the wireless FM modulators are the worst choice for sound quality. An auxiliary adapter will give the best sound although a hard-wired FM modulator is still better than wireless. Also, if you plan to move it between vehicles regularly, the SkyFi has a drop-in cradle whereas you have to unplug the Roady's three cables each time (not a big deal but I suppose the connectors will wear out eventually).

VIP1 is correct that the receiver has very little to do with reception. The type and placement of the antenna and where you are driving will determine what kind of reception you get.

I don't plan on moving it to any other vehicle so should I get the original Roady and wire it into the cd changer plug or can the new one be wired into it for better sound?

I include the PartNumbers and where to get the adapter cables.

EDIT:
I just realized that you are the same guy that started that thread.

To answer my own thread I just bought this unit and subsribed to the XM service. I am pleased with the reception and the music selection. I will be wiring it into the cd changer plug in the near future for optimum sound quality.
