Default Mounting amps on rear hump?

I've noticed amps being mounted on the rear hump behind the passenger seat, now I know the gas tank is there so its not a good idea to screw into the metal - so how are the amps mounted?

Do you just mount the amps on the carpet and trust that they will stay in place? Just wondering - I'm about ready to do mine.

Just don't screw into the metal. Screwing into the carpet will actually hold the amps.

I didn't, my amp is still sitting unsecured on the floor behind my seat for now. I took a break from car audio for several months. My door panels aren't even back on (took those off back in like May). Heh. Just finally getting around to finishing things up now, waiting for some parts to come in. Not sure where I'll put the amp yet.

most secure way is to lift the carpet, place a sheet of plywood or mdf down on the metal. Optionally, use a little bit of liquid nail to hold the board down. Then replace the carpet, and screw your amp down through the carpet and into the board.

I used the board method for mine and it worked well. It's been there for 3 years with no issues.

Don't use MDF; use plywood or real wood. Screws in MDF tear easily, could be an issue with our cars. People have reported issues with the Subthump amp racks.

guys, don't forget that just because you can stomp the gas and break pedal and be ok, that it's good to go.

In the unfortunate event that you are in an accident, you have enough to worry about without the added concern of a 10 to 20 pound amplifier flying towards the back of your head.

I'm going to use whatever is cheapest How often do you take your amps out anyway? Not nearly enough for the screw holes to strip/tear. Even if they did, you can just move the amp over an inch and make new holes

Well, on the back there I have multiple layers of eDead and Dynomat so there is no metal to secure it to. If its optional like you said I can just put a board under there.

I used a piece of 5/8" plyuwood scrap I had laying around. It was about the same size as the amp and not thick enough to protrude up. I used 3/4" screws to attach it. The "feet" on the amp were a little over 1/8th of an inch so it was a perfect fit.

I used a 3/4" piece of plywood and put 3/4"x3/4" sticks around three sides to make space for wires to be below it. I attached it to the car via bolts into where the triangle tie downs are. Those bolts are hidden by the amps. This is old though, I have since made a rack that is more stealthy.

hahahaha for some reason I find your upside down amp hilarious. Not in a negative way, though, it just makes me laugh

yeah i suggest not counting on just screwing it into the carpet. i got into a bad wreck and my amp ended up in the passenger seat. could have done some serious damage to a passenger...
