1999 formula vs GXP
I got into a race with a 2006 Grand Prix GXP. I was cruising
on the highway not too much traffic, when this nice looking black
GRAND PRIX was tail gating me, so I moved over to let him pass.then
I looked over at the guy and he rolled down the window and asked me
if I wanted to race. I said let's give it a go! So we both started at
60 MPH, I was in 3rd gear, I let the GXP get the hit, then I floored
it. I very easily flew by the GXP. I shifted into 4th and I was at least
a bus-length ahead of him, if not more. I let off at 125. . .
NOT Sure what year the car was I think it was 05/06 with 303 HP 323 Torque.
It was fun! the guy was cool I give him thumbs up he did the same.

run low 14's, dogs on the hwy, 1st gear winds out at almost 60, 2nd is at 101 and an hour to hit 140... i got mine down to 13.6 @102 in 20f weather at atco, hence the reason i took a $4k hit on a 6mo old car and got the TBSS... lesson learned.. FWD sucks.

i was probly the first person to take a GXP to the track. i had a 2005 GP GXP Tony knows me as Atek_gt2 over at clubgp.com
ran 13.6@102 stock also. i think me and tony had a couple freaks. though i ran my 13.2 at a normal track. not ATCO with 50 mph tail winds and going down a mountain just picking at the atco place it gives ridiculously faster times because of the low DA.
GXP weigh around 3800 lbs.
not as fast as a ls1. but in all other matters superior. even had a higher lateral grip than an ls1 lol. but torque steer and wheel spin was horrible.
there is a video somewhere of me losing to a chevy caprice i think on streetfire and youtube. at a 1/8 mile track i woudn up running like 9.3 and 9.4 all night there because of it being such a shitty track. normally i ran 8.7 to 8.8 in the 1/8 with it when it would grip.
i raced a infiniti g35 back when i had a cai,and some exhaut work and from 45-130 i wound up 1 car length ahead. this was back in mid 2005.
i also learned my lesson and said Screw FWD. but i also didnt get a flying Brick like Tony

FWD is a bitch to launch but better tires, a gutted interior and spring blocks in the back helps.. a lot. I can keep my own with a stock ls1 with out the bottle.
That being said it probably would of been smarter of me to start with an LS1 for less and be way faster with the extra money, but i do like the sleeper look.

Ya its not to pretty on the inside but with dark tint no one can see unless i open the door or the window all the way. I think i have about 200-300 pounds out of there. I do have to put it all back in and do some demodding before i bring it back for warrenty, after the winter, its parked now anyways.

I guess my car must be faster than I give it credit for. I raced an 06 gp gxp and he had cai and exhaust work, and I really did put a good distance between me and him in a hurry. I don't know, the guy driving was a pretty good driver too.

All I had done was my catback at the time we raced, and we went from a dig. He stalled, im not sure what rpm, and I just launched off idle. He drives his car pretty well most of the time. It wouldn't matter now, I have the basic bolt-ons and am about to get a dyno tune and some stickies. You could definitely tell that the ls1 had more pull up top. What's funny, is the guy pulled up revvin at me and then proceeded to tell me that my car had nothing on an SS camaro and that he made just as much power as me and that he could probably take me. He's a pretty cool cat most of the time, just that night he was acting stupid.

sounds like he's a dumbass behind the wheel, some people are like that. Cool most of the time and then get an ego cause they are some what fast. If he stalled it he probably spun pretty bad it takes some better tires and pratice to get that down with out spinning or letting off to much and bogging. Either way it would take more than what he had if you had a strong car. You are probably a second faster in the 1/4 if your even a little better and if he can't launch.

I'm not going to sit here and say I'm the best driver in the world, but I have picked up driving this car pretty well. He said he spun, and he had some decent tires on there, but they are just street tires. He wanted to go from about a 30 roll, but I told him there was no point. My car runs really strong though, I raced a bolt-on SS with 3.73s and some stickies and hung with him a whole lot better than we both thought I would, and all I had was a flowmaster catback.

for him to "stall" the car he would have had to put it in neutral and be like revving it up and then hitting the tapshift into 1st.... which wont do anythign but wait untill the revs come down. so that guy probly had no clue how to race.
and though a dig is a GXP best chance. because from a roll they trap 2-3 mph less. but i ran a few ls1's in mine from a 70mph roll and by 100mph would only be about a car behind. there slower but not by a lot .

Okay how about this, he footbraked it and ran the rpms up and then launched. To me that is stalling the car. I believe that they aren't much slower than a stock ls1. He raced a 99 t/a and only got beat by two. I played with that same t/a and walked him. So really, it's no surprise. I know he raced an a4 ls1 goat and was on his back bumper at the end. Car is quick, just not as fast as he thought it was.
