Default WS6 vs. bolt-on 350Z

My cousin just got a Lightning a couple weeks ago, so we went out trying to find a couple races. I really didn't care if I raced or not, but wanted to at least get him something. Ended up talking to a guy with an LT1 who showed up after us. The guys that were already there and knew him gave us the impression that the LT1 was a dog. Turned out to be a mild H/C setup with 4:11s and a 9 inch. Anyway, the L and LT1 head out, and me and this guy in a 350Z who I initially talked to chased after just to watch.

I talked to the guy with the Z for a bit. he asked if my car was a WS6. I told him "yeah, but it doesn't make much of a difference performance wise." And he replied "Man, I used to have an 11 second car. I know there's a difference." Yeah.. whatever. he had full exhaust, tune, and some other stuff that he just got done. He also had nitrous, but had a bottle leak or something so he wasn't spraying.

Anyway.. we follow after the LT1 and Lightning, and I had no intention of racing.. just spectating. After the two in front of us took off, he gets next to me and all I hear is one honk and he's gone. I was cruising in 4th at like 45 MPH by then. I dropped to second and finally nosed past him by the beginning of 4th and let out. The next two runs went down legit.. 3 honks and I was already in 2nd. First one was from 40ish, 2nd one from 50ish.. each time I put 3-4 cars on him til about 90-100 MPH. I wanted to go higher, but the Lightning and LT1 kept shutting down, so we had no choice but to brake for them.

The best part is when we get back he says "I thought I smelled nitrous." "The bottle's cold, man. Go check it out.. my bottle heater doesn't even work right now." He was fine with that explanation. I mentioned that whatever he was smelling is probably because I was cat-less. I'm going NANO by the end of the week. Too bad I didn't have it that night.. I would've let him race me on the spray to show him the difference.

The LT1 pulled the Lightning by a couple each time.. from what I was told.

Sounds like some fun man...a handful of cars all going at it is usually a sweet sight. was it a newer 350 or a pre 07 one? Good kill regardless man. And glad to hear that 40 isn't a dead spot for you (handy info for future reference )

PS. My exhaust is getting fabbed weds morning, Vararam is putting the G8 systems into full production this week, so by next week HOPEFULLY I'll have the Vara, catless x-pipe to corsa mufflers, then a re-tune.

40 isn't a dead spot, but the car definitely pulls harder from a 50 roll. It was an 04 Z.

I just dropped my car off at RPM in Delaware for the clutch install. Should be some good runs. Just let me know and I'll try to find a time to make it out.

why were you asking which year of the 350z it was? the 07's are not that much faster. he is probly a good second quicker than the 07's or even the 370z.

at 390+whp im assuming your a good mid to low 12 car? without spray?

I'm not sure what I run.. I only have the car to daily drive and run for fun every now and then. I'd like to think I could break into the low-mid 12s off spray. Regardless, I know it's more than enough to handle any sort of bolt-on Nissan Z car.

With the M6 there really isn't a dead spot.. there are rolls I'd prefer to go from like 50-55 over 40, but it's not like the car is a dog in 2nd at 40. Some gears probably do wonders for the A4 guys.. especially those with 2.73s.

While I agree that of course the OP is gonna be noticeably faster than any bolt-on 350Z, there is quite a bit of difference between the '03-'06 and '07+ 350Zs. '07+ cars can hit low 13s and are mid 13s cars all day long, pre-'07 cars haven't gone lower than 13.6-13.7 from what I can find. And the '07+ HR cars have hit traps over 105mph.

I don't think Z cars are exactly made for the 1/4, they just don't hook up right; BUT, like Irun said (and what ponyGT WAS going to say) their is a big difference between the HR and DE 350z's. The HRs flow significantly better (direct injection and twin TBs) and rev 1000rpms higher. Lets also not just assume they can't make serious power, they just rely on boost like the 3V and 4V mustangs. Hell, the 370Z makes more power then the new 3V mustang and only weighs 3240lbs . That car is pretty rediculous.

The guy with the Z has 100 shot on his car, as do I.. so i think if we each sprayed we woulda had a bit better of a race.
