That Cobra needs some better tires. Cobra's will hook they just need a good tire. There's plenty of guys with the stock IRS get in the 1.6's
Good kill OP. You gotta love those runs where your wondering who won. ***** exciting.

I agree with just a little more practice and some good prep I will be in the 1.6's with 17's all the way around and the roll bar still on.......

I saw him make one more pass after our run and he ran a 12.0 @ 124 so clearly his 60' had gotten worse. He just needs some more practice I guess. It's easy for people who have mastered launching long ago to forget how hard it was at the beginning when they were noobs.
Stick shift + IRS + lots of power = tough to launch. Not impossible but tough for a beginner. Hell it took me awhile to master the launch with a stalled auto. High STR's will smoke tires easily if your not careful. It takes the right tire, right psi, right length of burnout and under less favorable track/weather conditions the right throttle feathering in order to get a great launch.
But with 500+ quarter mile passes under my belt I'm pretty much an expert at launching my car. I just need to get a new set of MT street radials ordered. One of mine is completely bald in the middle so even with good track prep I have to ease into a launch and settle for 1.7x 60's.

Thanks!
No suspension mods. I'm 100% stock suspension. I don't even have SFC. All I have for traction is 255/50R 16 Mickey Thompson Street radials and I usually race with half a tank of gas to add a little weight to the back.
Yet I can still hit 1.5X 60's while lifting my front tires a few inches off the ground (at least when the mickeys have decent tread on them). I attribute most of that to good track prep and 4.10 gears (I had a hard time hooking with 3.23's). But I do have a set of adjustable LCA's that havn't been installed yet. And I'll follow that up with a PHB and torque arm.
But for now I'm still stock.

But I am also looking at doing good heads (leaning towards tfs215's), roll bar and a modest 100 shot of N20. Ultimately I want to see some mid to low 10's and that's when the suspension upgrades will pay off. I had an opportunity to trade for the LCA's so that's why I have them sitting around.

I'm all ready dead hooking and lifting the front tires when conditions are good. I don't think I can get any better then that. So I expect to gain nothing now.

Hey Darren,
I have one of your passes last year. Sorry the vid is a little blurry at times but I just wanted to get a vid of your front tires coming up. Your first launch actually lifted the tires about an inch or so more but I didn't take the vid. Your car hauls *** out of the hole.

Enjoy!!!! I get a better vid next time at the track.

He had drag radials and did a burnout. I don't know what went wrong on his end. Maybe he had too much psi in them, maybe he didn't heat them up enough or maybe it was all driver error.
