Some older cougars (96+ of the old body style) came with a 4.6OHC, the same motor as in the crown vics. This guy was BSing or dreaming. The 4.6 OHC plenum is the base ford v8 aafter the 5.0 was discontinued. There is nothing special about it, it is NOT a cobra motor (the cobra OHC motors are DOHC), and it was most likely NOT an engine swap. It was just a plain old v8 cougar from after the 5.0 era. The LATEST gen cougars are the fwd v6/i4 cougars. Neither old nor new cougars pose any sort of threat whatsoever to an LS1, INCLUDING the very few that were available with a 5speed and a 3.8 supercharged (way back when - 92-93ish I believe).

Point is - some of the later "old" cougars had a 4.6ohc. Its nothing special, and not a Cobra motor. The guy wanted to feel like he had something he didn't, or to convince you that in some way his car was cool.

Actually simple correction, 94+ had the 4.6 SOHC motor The 93 was the last year of the 5.0 1989 or 90 was the last year for the 5 speed 3.8 SC cougars, but the T-bird supercoupes were around till 94 or 95 if I remember right, but I don't remember any 5 speeds in those in the later years

Thanks Malicious. I couldn't remember the year that the 5.0s were replaced with the 4.6s, and I was off in the years with the T-bird SC-esque cougars, but the point still remains the same. The car did NOT have a cobra engine. It had the most base ford v8 offered that year, the 4.6ohc, the same lug used in crown vics and mercury marquis. This guy is/was trying to make himself feel good about his crappy car. That's be like me saying since my Buick has a 3800, it has the GNX motor..........

Thanks!

Lol, yeah... I thought seriously for along time about a DOHC swap in my cougar.. Saw a yellow t-bird with a polished out 98 cobra motor and s-trim vortech blower on it in a MM&FF once a while back... Sweet ride, talk about sleeper

Sounds really cool. If I had kept my buick i was gonna do a 3.1 intercooled turbo swap (from a TGP) with a getrag 282 5-speed from an 89-90 Gran prix or Cutlass Supreme. Hopped up with some Jeff M (TGP tuner) parts, that would have been a sweet rendition of a FWD "grand national"

Alas, it never came to fruition though....
