Well i bought the car about 3 months ago. Good deal, it was a one owner lease car, got her with 34,500, she has about 36.700 now and is stored for the winter. When i first got her, changed all the fluids, new msd wires, ngk tr55 plugs. She runs very well, interior is in great shape. However, she eats gas and oil. The car wouldnt do better than 14mpg in the city and thats me shifting at like 1800 rpm and not revving her up. My tailpipes are black. So i changed the front o2's because we when we ATaped the car, the two front o2's were pretty off from each other, but i had no SES lights or anything. So we changed them and my mileage went up to 14.9mpg, whoopdi!! the last time i filled her up, i know my gas mpg is down again. So I wanna challenge any GM dealer to get more than 14mpg out of her, she supposed to get 18/28. Well my buddy has a 600hp 2000 TA. He makes over 400 N/a, other is juice. He beats on his car and gets at the very least 15mpg. I have a stock car and get do no better than 14mpg. His car doesnt eat oil, mine does. It looks as if the cars that eat oil also eat more gas as well. I guess efficiency of the motor im guessing. Maybe i have a car that dynos like **** but runs good, i dont know, but its pretty frustrating. Ive been on the Other LS1 site since 2000, so ive been studying the cars for years! im not a newbie whatsoever, i read a ton of stuff on here and the Other site. The 98 TA automatic in GM high tech dynoed higher than me and im a m6 with a fully tuned car. My car consumes a quart every 800, Its a ring problem, pcv usually mighy suck a 1/2 quart every 3k or so. Gm shouldve recalled all the cars with anything under 1qt in 1500. It would cost them, but they would get so much gratitude from a lot of owners here. I have an aftermarket warranty, so in the spring time when i get a bit more miles on her, i plan to take it in and hope Phoenix Pontiac can redo my rings so i dont burn as much oil.

The Mach 1 and an LS1 pretty much come down to driver in the 1/4 mile. But for you guys that go to the tracks you will also notice that on average the LS1 traps almost 3 or more MPH. more then the Mach, meaning that the LS1 is almost always going to pull on a Mach 1. It's off the line that the Mach has the biggest advantage over our cars simply b/c there gearing is a lot better.

I could see saying it's a drivers race with a 99 or 2000 TA against a Mach-1 but even then the same driver would trap and time better with the TA. The run would be about mistakes. As for the 2001, 2002 TA a decent driver should be able to beat the Mach-1 every time.

I would say that its stupid to say the mach 1 is faster
than the ls1 based off of this race, because of the fact
a. he is racing the slowest year models for the ls1, b. he
is racing an auto trans, with possibly 2.73 gears.. the slowest
ls1 ever made. Apples to Oranges..

I went 13.3 @ 106 bonestock in my 99 m6 with a 2.1 60'..
I'm sure 13.0 is possible with somebody with more
more than my 1 year experience. My launching sucked.
Would the Mach 1 owners think the Mach 1 is slower if an
LS1 manual raced a Mach 1 Auto? No.. They would make
a post similar to mine.

Its a drivers race. My car isn't stock anymore, so I could
care less who is faster.. The advantage is more than
likely to the average LS1 by 1-2mph. I'm just stating that this
race is not a good indicator in the first place.

Peace,

if you want a true comparrison you would find at leats 3 of each car same options between brands and have the same driver drive all of them... the only way you can get a real feel for whats going on.

I agree with 69 totally. We now know, in fact, that my friends transam is running 2.73 gears. When I originally posted this race, I never stated that this race would prove anything. I just stated the outcome. Like I said, the first race was won by the transam, then the Mach 1 took the other two. This goes to show there was never a clear victory, because the first night these two met, it was ls1-3, mach 1-0. I know that some people are gonna call bs, but I'm definately pro ls1, so I wouldn't make up the outcome in the mach 1's favor. I posted my response here because this is the place to post them, and my friend wanted me to post it for you guys, since he hasn't had time to join the board. I really hope my friend gets bit by the mod bug so I can be posting another 3-0 kill. I really appreciate everyone's info on this subject, and I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes.Peace

I ran my buddies 03 Mach 1 several times.....from a roll...from a dig.....I have an A4 vert and once we hit 70 I'd start to pull each time. Oh...he is NOT the best driver...so I let him get the jump each time....I wanted to make sure he hooked before I took off. I'd say at the track I'd take him by .2-.3 tenths.

Now...if I were up against Roger...I'd be looking at his lights........but hey...I've got an A4 vert.....I can live with that!

Default Wtf?

I Have A 98 Ss, With A Air Lid And Stock Tires and A4. I broke the trans and rear on it on seperate ocasions and the dealer replaced the trans with a OE one and put 3.73s in the rear. (mech said it was what was in there before) I Ran A Best Of 13.1 And Average Times Between 13.2-13.5 Tops. I Use To Street Race Alot When I Was In The States And I Never Got Even Touched By Mustangs After Second Gear.

I have a 97 LT1 Z28 with most of the bolt ons, runs 13.20 @ 106 on streeties. A buddy of mine recently bought a brand new 5 speed 03 Mach 1, and we played around on the highway a few times the other night. Did 3 roll ons starting in second gear, and I walked him by a car or two to 120 all 3 times. I was expecting it to be a little bit closer than that, but oh well....
