Default My WS6 vs Evo and Srt4

Ok well me and my two buddies decided to go out tonight and have some fun. My buddy who drives the Evo has every bolt-on imaginable, 272 cams along with a built transfer case and last but not least an FP Green turbo kit. He dyno'd at 400awhp - 328awtq at around 28psi i believe. He also had his gf in the car shes right around 130lbs or so. My other buddy with an srt4 has just intake and exhaust. My car has a hooker catback, slp intake, and a hurst short throw. Other then that its completely stock.

I raced the srt4 first I started in 3rd gear around 40mph and pulled 4 or so cars on him up to about 120mph. The second race I started in 2nd gear at around 4k rpms pulled a good 6 cars on him till we slowed down. It was a constant pull he never once started to gain on me.

Next I went up above my buddies Evo I thought for sure I was going to get my *** handed to me. First race I started off in 2nd gear around 40mph I pulled about a half car even with him brake boosting and when he shifted into 4th he pulled a good 2 cars on me. The race ended with him having about 1 1/2 cars on me. It seemed like every time he shifted into the next gear I would gain about 1 car back. Second race I started off in 1st gear around 25mph. We were dead even until I shifted into 3rd gear then same results as above. Third race we both started in 3rd gear around 30mph we were both dead even basically the entire race he went through 2 gears before I shifted into 4th. By the time he started to pull we had to shut them down.

Just thought I would share my experience. I was pretty stoked that my car did as good as it did. Needless to say my buddy in the Evo was a little pissed off his car didnt pull any better then it did.

im willing to say at 400awd hp he should have pulled you pretty hard every time with your mods. Sounds like he needs to learn how to drive based on your description and the outcome.

good runs though, you still held your own not your fault he cant shift lol

Yeah I agree. He has only had the car for 2 weeks. He had the car for 5 days until he blew out the transfer case. Then he put a built one on along with the FP Green. He is a pretty good driver I just think he needs more practice in his new ride. I drove the evo the other night and its FUN AS HELL driving!! The only thing I did not like was how short the gears are. Its a 2003 so its only a 5 speed too.

I wasnt trying to take anything away from you or the car, just agree that it was prolly the driver that lost that race per se. But with a 100 shot im sure the outcome would be different from a roll lol

Yeah I agree totally. I was expecting him to pull 5-6 cars on me pretty fast.

Well first off tell your friend with the SRT to invest in a boost controller then re run for fun

Second off Im going to have to second that EVO needing a driver mod. Not trying to down your car but if its really a 400awhp EVO then it should have won hands down.

Most importantly it sounds like you had some some fun runs, and nice kills, in the end you won both runs

Yeah we were talking afterwards and he was telling me the car is hard as hell to shift right. I told him he probably just isnt used to it yet.

Well if hes got a built transfer case just tell him to slam all the gears in. It will sound like gunshots but he wont lose as much boost in between shifts.

My friend who is now building an 01 camaro used to have an 03 EVO with intake, 272s, full exhaust, and an AMS tune set at 26psi with all this going thru a southbend clutch. First few times i drove it and he told me to just go ahead and slam the gears i thought i the trans would fall out of the car lol

Evos tend to have lock out issues with certain aftermarket clutches, ACT being one of the big ones. He might need to play with the pedal adjustment some.

Good races! Are your headers not on the car yet? Just curious since they are listed in your sig, but not in the mods you listed in the thread.

neons are slow unless modded correctly. tell him to get an agp wastegate, turn the boost up, an safc2 then tune it. it will be a completely different car

Absolutely agree. My best friend had an 03 SRT4 that was a factory freak, i mean when it had just an intake it would be taking down Intake and exhausted Mazdaspeed 3s all day and it was the 03 so open diff and a bit less power and smaller injectors.

On day he threw on a boost controller and just upped the boost, i was amazed at what a difference a $60 AMS boost controller did. We cruised around just looking to start runs and ended up taking down LS1 GTOs, STis', and even held up rather well against an 04 M3!

He sold that SRT because he wanted a newer car, and wound up getting an 04 SRT same color and everything in the end and is basically doing what you just recommended.

I gotta say they impress me for what you get for the price.

I'm gonna go and say that the Evo should of pulled you alot harder then it did. I don't want to discredit your car but i think you see where we all are coming from. Good runs none the less, i dont even want to say anything about the Srt4's... lol

Only if the AWD car launches perfectly. All too often these 4 banger turbo cars bog the launch and then they're all done.

IF its a 2004 or above EVO it comes with 2 step programmed in from the factory. Just hold the gas to the floor, dump the clutch and away it goes.
When launched this way i have yet to see one bog but it can heppen under the right conditions i suppose
