I am very aware that it's easier to be consistent with an automatic, but there are regular Joe's out there that will beat one every time in the 6spds. I've used this example before, but I saw a member of this site run a 12.99 @ 110mph in his '02 WS6 6spd with my own eyes, and that was with a 2.15 60' time. All he had was a lid. And for the record, most people that buy manual transmission cars do so because of the enjoyment of driving them, not because it's faster in a straight line.
Cool... What was the DA on that pass?
I buy A4s because I despise driving manuals, I think A4s are 10000Xs more fun as well as being quicker. That is all personal opinion and has nothing to do with anything.
I think you guys are forgetting that this is a Z28 with cloth interior and 16" alloy rims. The C5 has 17/18s in chrome (targa) and fully loaded. It isn't like there is some 400# weight difference. I would assume that the weight was almost exactly the same, MAYBE the C5 weighs 50-100#s less but I doubt it. Even at that, that is not enough to change the outcome of a race.
Side note- I'm not a 16 year old kid that doesn't look at facts. You guys need to pay attention to what I'm saying and why I'm saying it.

being an A4 guy my self, i have experienced racing manuals when i was stock, bolt ons, and now cammed and stalled... and the only way an M6 has ever pulled me is when we went from a 40 roll and even then it wasnt by very much.
LS1 autos are no joke PERIOD...

auto's have more drivetrain loss, proven fact, auto's also have a higher geared rear, not necessarily good for drag racing. but they are faster..ok, less power, and worse gearing means its faster. hmm you learn something new everyday.

I mean it's no secret that autos are more consistent than manuals, and also more forgiving. But it also should be no secret that the manual will always have the potential to be faster, given driver ability.

That is the lamest most over used excuses I hear. I consider it as bad as some ricer excuses. Just because it is a 6 speed and isn't as fast/quick as some other 6 speed doesn't mean that the car is capable of going faster given the other driver. All cars are NOT equal.
I just love ANYTIME an M6 loses or doesn't do what is supposed to happen it is ALWAYS "driver error", an A4 loses and NOBODY says driver error. I CLEARLY showed that driver can make a HUGE difference in the outcome of a race in an A4 race. In this race it was 3-4 car lengths.

Believe it or not, many people have a problem doing this, especially in a stock converter car.
We were both in the car at the same time, I'm sure our shoe sizes are close to the same.
The jump in a race means EVERYTHING!!! Me and a buddy use to run on a regular basis.. No matter what, whoever got the jump (even if a split second) would walk away from the other, as in 2+ car lengths. When we left at same time it was always within 1/2 car race.. That means more than anything in a race.
Go race a street bike and try to leave on the 3rd honk... They will have 2+ lengths on you before your car even moves. You have to pretty much jump them to leave at the same time.

Ahh I agree with you there. Some Integra thought he was hot **** after I was going to do three honks and he punches it on the first honk We catch the next light and I tell him to go on green... he was embarrassed fast.
