Just to chime in. In 85' & 86' you could get 2 different versions of a carb'd Iroc the Lg4 & L69 alongside the Lb9 TPI.

I myself enjoy the thirdgen as with the fact most people never keep theirs looking good, or can properly build one it just adds to the hype that I'll be a cake walk for the newer muscle & imports. Just adds to the shock when they line up expecting to spank the "inferior technology" and in turn they are getting spanked.
I think your confusing iroc with the regular Z28. Z28's had the carb which was the TBI. I really seriously doubt that the Iroc came with a TBI cause those were really weak. A lot of people think that all third gen camaros were called iroc

The Iroc-Z

The Iroc-Z nor the Z28 ever came with TBI, they were always 4BBL Carb or TPI. The Lo3 was the TBI motor.

Uummm the 3rd gen z did come with a throttle body injected engine. Do your research. Where are you getting your info from?

I clicked on that link and some info there is wrong. My friends Z had a TBI stock, and I know he didn't do a swap because that was his dads car and was all original miles on it. And there is also a lot of cars that I've seem that have the TBI on it.

There was never a 350 TBI in any third gen, only a 305. The ONLY 350 available was TPI with an auto. And the fastest third gen ever made (not including firehawk or turbo TA) was the G92 optioned 305 TPI 5 speed car. They were rated at the quickest 1/4 mile bone stock. Obviously a lightly modded 350 would take one though.

People can make fun of third gens all they want but they are lighter by quite a bit than the 4th gens, have a very similiar suspension, and in thier day they were awesome handling cars. Hell they still are in this day. Only thing wrong was the drivetrains in them which is why I went LSx.......then it's lights out!

But anyways, nice thing you shut him up OP. I hate getting a bad name from 95% of the third genners out there.

Your right on what you said about not having a 350 but this z28 did have a 350 which the caprice did have. Idk why this camaro had it. And also I don't think all third gens where lighter. I know my GTA is a couple Hundred pounds heavier than my 4th gen. And I do agree that third gens handle really well. I feel it when I drive my GTA. And not all 305's where faster than 350 tpi. I ran my friends 305 tpi vs my 350 tpi and beat him nasty. This is when my car only k&n his had CAI

On the weight part, have you ever actually had both of them on a scale? I'd be really surprised if the third gen did weigh more than the 4th gen.....and DEF not a couple hundred pounds more. There is a thread on thirdgen.org where people post thier weights and a guy with a fully optioned GTA with T-tops, AC, 350 TPI with auto tranny, etc had his on a certified scale and measured in at around 3250 I think.

And as far as the 305 vs 350 deal, I didn't mean all 305's, just the 305 TPI with 5 speed combo and the G92 perf package with the 3.42 gears, dual cats, etc. They were in fact quicker than the 350 cars stock for stock.

With nearly all IROC's full optioned the vaste majority weighed about the same as 4th gens. 3450-3550lbs is the norm.

Back in the late 90's: My brothers '87 IROC when it was still a 5.0 A4 with SLP headers/exhaust, SLP T-ram intake (came on the Firehawks), chip'd, K&N filter, Lingenfelter TB with airfoil, 3.42 gears, 100% full aftermarket suspension, TCI 2800 stall w/shift kit: Lost to my mothers '90 very rare optioned to the hilt race edition bone stock 7,000 miles on it IROC. From a dig and roll. He was pissed!!

We dyno'd it after the it's Flowmaster catback install and it made 245? or 248? rwhp. Enough to legitimately run maybe 14 flat. Out of the literally hundreds of IROC's that I've worked on, driven, and ridden in none were even in the same ballpark as that IROC.
