Default **LS2 CTS-V vs 2005 Porsche Carrera**

First off ima full bolt-on LS2 untuned. 2005 Carrera I was told by the driver was also full bolt-on and recently ran a 13.2 at the track.

So Saturday night im cruising on my way home from eating with a friend. I pull up to a stoplight and see a Black Carrera with nice chrome rims about 2 cars ahead of me. Im feeling beasty so when the light turns green I go around a few cars to get next to him. I have my windows down so I give him a nod and throw em a rev. He then proceeds to take off so I drop it in 2nd and by the top I pull even. Hit 3rd and pull a car or so and by mid 4th have a few cars.

Pull up to the next light and im about to turn right to head home. Dude rolls down his windows and compliments my car and I do the same. Then he asks to run them again on the next road so I say hell yeah and he let me in the lane to turn to the next road. We both line up around 40 mph im in 2nd he 3 honks and I get the jump and pull ½ a car immediately and car in a half by 3rd but have to shut it down cuz of a car in his lane. We talk a little more and then we take to an empty access road. Line em up around 45 mph and it’s the same outcome until I miss 4th somehow and he pulls me by a car.

We hit another stoplight and he asks me if my car is supercharged. I tell him that’s the 09’ V and im an 07’ with headers and cold air but im untuned. He tells me hes full bolt on and recently ran a 13.2 at the track. We rum em again but this time from a 1st gear roll from 25 to 90mph and I put at least 3 cars on him. We make a turn around to another light and he had a friend following us in G35 that I didn’t even realize. I tell him that his fat *** rims are slowin him down and he agrees. Then his friend says from behind us “hes beatin ur *** every time up top.. Go from a stop!” I tell him im down.

Im kinda nervous from so much **** I read about the V’s rear ends but I say Eff it I got warranty. LOL So I hold my rpms around 2500.. Light turns green so I slip my clutch n hit it and were even thru 1st. Then punch it in 2nd and pull a car, hit 3rd and pull 3 or so cars.. hit 4th and I got sum buses idk if he gave up or wut but.. DAMN I felt GOOD! He rolls by and says good runs see you around. And we proceed to go our ways. Bad *** nite concluded!

Long story short: 07 CTS-V full bolt-on untuned beats Full bolt-on 05 Carrera several times from rolls and a dig. With 1 loss due to miss shift. lol

Nice! I thought those Carrera's were faster than that though? 13.2?! Must not have been the turbo version- or it was the lat 90's/early 2000's one's that were slow as turds (coworker has a convertible '99, I would say it runs low 14's).

Thanks! Yeah it was definitely non turbo but 05 Carrera’s run 0-60 in 4.6 sec stock according to motortrend. And this one was modded, I just think it needs a driver mod. Because I weigh 1,000 lbs more than him. I really thought I was gonna get my *** handed to me. lol

Definitely needs the driver mod... the regular Carreras have been high 12/low 13s cars since '98. So his should be low-mid 12s. But a win is a win, and your car is definitely strong... possibly strong enough to beat him even in an ideal race.

Thanks guys. The V is really feeling strong lately. I totally destroyed a new 370Z from low and high rolls a few weeks back. So im thinkin maybe i can dip into the high 12's at the track. Cuz cars i've been killin lately are runnin in the low 13's to high 12's. I'll prolly take her to the strip in a few weeks its just hott as hell right now! Oh and I definitely need a tune bad just havent had the time to take the v to the shop and drop $475 on a dyno tune lol

Nice kill, driver mod needed. Even in a 996 but with the rear engine, he probably cut a 2.2 or worse 60ft.

Nice kill in the M5 *** kicker. With the mods you have I dont doubt the kill at all. The 2nd gen car is fantastic, but the 1st gen wasnt to bad either. Get a tune and you will be happy for awhile.

Some people think that anything with a Porsche emblem on it is the quickest thing on the street, but they are uninformed. I like to ask these same people this question. What is shorter, the C5 / C6 Corvette or the 911 of the same vintage since 1997. The kicker is which one weights more. PPShhh, the Corvette is shorter and lighter than the Porsche. With that said, consider pricing.............wow. Porsche must make FANTASTIC seats, the rest is irrelevant exept for price if performance is the answer to the performance question.

Actually the Porsche is shorter AND lighter. A base manual 996 is a hair under 3000 pounds.

Although I will give that the C6 is an inch shorter than a 997, it does however, weigh more.

Nice kill OP. Your car is probably faster than you think and certainly faster than high 12s.

You don't buy a Porsche because it's the fastest thing ever. Don't be ridiculous.

Not bad considering the Porsche is a 4 seater. However it's wheelbase is much shorter. Draw your own conclusions.

If you want a track car, the Porsche is the clear choice.

Not sure if this discussion was about 996s or 7s? But 997s are no where near 3000
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t_drive_review

Wheelbase: 92.9 in Length: 175.6 in
Width: 71.2 in
Height: 51.2 in
Curb weight: 3150 lb

And I am not aware of any reference that puts 2005-996s below 3000
