01 Z28 vs 335
The only clean run i got on him was the last race he had a 2 car lead on me and punched it 1 second before me. I didnt know when he was going to go wot and wouldnt let me get next to him to do a clean race or a 3 honk. I beat him by 3-4 cars by the time i hit about 140mph i was about 5700-5800rpms in 5th and the race for me started in 5th since i didnt want to get any further behind i didnt downshift im sure if i started in 4th from 80-85mph i would've had more cars but who knows. I was suprised to pull on him since 5th is a overdrive gear for our cars but i wish we started in 4th or 3rd gear. Either way i didnt have much say in this race, it seemed like he pretty much controlled how the race would start. He was a very good sport about it and gave me a thumbs up a few times and he seemed to be stock.

LOL, Thanks guys. I actually thought he would do a good job keeping up. Were i live there are plenty of 335's and many of them are fixed up. I just got lucky and probably ran into one that was bone stock.

I agree most of the kids around here get a 10 an hour and the first thing they want to buy is a 335 so they can chip it, JB3, Vishnu and so on. My 4.10's probably saved me in 5th.

OP's car should be a easy mid 12 second car at 110-112mph. A stock 335i is a mid 13 second car at 104-105mph range. THAT equals 10 car lengths in a 1/4 mile run. Whats off with that? Or are you one of those guys with blown up expectations for a stock 335i?

Good kill story. Too bad you could not get a more even start with him. I forget what a stock 335 feels like, so every once in a while I run a valet map that mimics stock. Tap the stability control button the right way and come out of valet with 150whp more because I can't stand the stock performance.

420-430 whp is all the 335 is good for on stock turbos (93 octan) at moderate boost levels. Some risk takers can get to 450whp on the stock turbos, but they are going to melt them at those boost levels.
A few brave 335 souls have put small dry shot nitrous systems on their cars with good results and are hitting about 550whp. Check out this 335: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=354785
I'm not that big of a risk taker. Still waiting for a good turbo upgrade option.
Have fun!

at 420-430whp thats plenty to take out alot of cars and should also be hella fun for a DD car. I use to own a E46 M3 Manual and i thought that car was just bueatiful, since i wasnt racing it and was using it as a weekend car the 335 wouldve been a better choice since i could've mod the crap out of it and gained more power. Either way i have tons of respect for 335's especially ones that are chipped.

Ive had 3 camaro's before the E46 M3 and i just hated that car. I actually have a race me against a 335 Vert with the hoses to the WG pulled off atleast thats what the owner of the 335 said and i have a race against a 08 Mustang GT 5speed. I didnt like the way the power came, you would have to rev that car past 6500 rpms to feel it pull and shifting at 8100rpms was just too high for me. Mine pulled 310RWHP and 249RWTQ and just not enough torque or power lower in the rpms were im usually at for most of my driving which is around town. This is my 5th camaro ive had overall because i purchased a 94Z M6 after getting rid of the M3 and now i have a 01Z28 M6.

I just know people like to inflate distances or car lengths. I've raced a few 335s and I pull them with ease. I also trap 111. I'm amazed he gave a mid 13 second car a 1 second punch and managed to put 6 cars on him after that. You said it yourself, a mid 13 second car with a 1 second hit vs. a mid 12 second car. Good kill to the OP either way.

i didnt give him a 1 sec lead he took it, i also didnt give him the 2 car lead he wouldnt let me get close or side by side. The ideal race wouldve been side by side, 3 honk and im in 4th but ive hardly ever been in a ideal race. In the end i was shocked i was pulling on him as wide as 5th was even with the 4.10's but then again im fully modded and he was most likely bone stock. Im sure if i went up against just a chipped 335 i would lose bad and thats not a fully bolt on car.

But here is a test-tune that I logged on my 335i sedan. You can also see the performance gains from stock. Remember, tune and DCI are about $579 in mods, car will still get over 30mpg on the hwy:
This is on my 08 335i Steptronic Sedan with only 5500 miles on it
91 Octane Pump Gas, absolutely bone stock besides 19" M6 Replicas/Generals. 34 psi, 2nd gear soft launches with absolutely no warm up burnouts.
Hopefully by testing on a totally different car, I can see if it responds similarly to the way my coupe did.
