buddy of mine bought a 03 Mach 1 and is always talkin **** about it. other day we were heading to the bar and actually ended up with the oppurtunity side by side at a light... he revved.... i revved to confirm. He was pissed off when I still beat him off of the line (even though I am A4 and he is a manual). continued to make stride on him in every gear up to about 100mph when I ended up having about 2-3 car lengths on him before we backed off of it... felt good to shut him up....

Auto = advantage off the line.
Manual = advantage from a roll.

Umm, they way he said it made it seem like he knew that he had an advantage off the line with an A4. he said the guy was pissed, even though he was manual, meaning, though he had the disadvantage, he was still pissed. Thats how I read it. either way, Nice kill

 

i know the A4 is better off of the jump... i had the traction control off and was spinning the tires pretty bad. Even through the spin though and lack of traction down low I still was making way on him..... that is what was what I meant to say (forgot the spinning tires in previous thread)

all a mach 1 is is GT with Cobra Headers and Shaker Hood

While I'm not much of a Mach 1 fan, that's not a fair statement. They move pretty good. Nothing crazy, but not bad at all.

I'm assuming you know that Cobras don't have headers and that GT's have 2V motors while Mach 1's have 4V's.

 

don't claim to know a whole lot about the fords to be quite honest... am only relaying what he told me about the mach 1.....

No way I'd take anything personal about a Mach 1 because I don't like them. The fact of the matter is that they are nothing like GT's as far as the motor is concerned. They are much closer to the '03 Cobra as a matter of fact.

 

I thought you were saying that a Mach 1 is basically a GT because it's slow.

 

The Mach 1 is _basically_ a pre 03 Cobra motor right?As far as mechanicals it looks to be a pre 03 without the IRS.
I don't think the shaker does much if anything for power.I do know they look different but that's not what I am talking about here.

I'll say again that they are not as great as the owners would like to believe. I have yet to be beaten by one on street or track.

My car is so close to stock it's upsetting.

 

So wrong... the Mach 1 is definitely a respectable vehicle in stock form from Ford... which pisses me off a lot

 

The mach 1 engine is the standard Aluminum block and bottom end from the 99/01 cobras. It does not use the same DOHC 4v heads that the 99/01 cobras did, nor does it use the same ones the 03 cobra uses. It shares the head design with the Mercury Marauder, I believe it also uses the same cams as the Marauder 4v. The intake cams are similar (if not the same) as the Lincoln Navigator 5.4L intake cams, and the exhaust cams are similar (if not the same) as the old 99/01 cobra exhaust cams. The intake is new I believe, and the shaker hood does have a measureable, if small, ram-air effect at speed. The suspension is neither the GT's, the Cobra's, nor the Bullitt's, but specific to the Mach 1. It is very straight-line-traction based I hear, although capible in the twisties. The rear is solid live axle like the GT, although I believe the gears have been upped to 3.55:1 from the 3.23:1 (3.08:1?) in the GT.

It is not a modified GT, it is not an 03 cobra without the s/c, and it is not a re-release of the 99/01 cobra. It is it's own beast.
