There I was getting gas, MMOB, when in pulls a Mustang GT. I didn't think much of it since I haven't seen a 5.0 yet anywhere so why would one be at the same gas station as me? Well he pulls over to the same pump as me, other side. I noticed the car looked lowered and the wheels didn't look stock, but I have no idea. And there it was, the good ole 5.0 badge. Oh and it was loud...

The guy looks over at me and he notices I'm looking at his car and he nods, "Nice car man, I had a GTO a few years ago." I said thanks man, so that's the 5.0 I've been hearing about huh?

We small talked while filling up. I wasn't even thinking about a race just yet so I just kept fueling to the top. Turns out he had an Evolution Performance tune, catback, and cold air. Something about no rear cats? The car had 4500 miles on it. He didn't mention any track times or dyno results, but then again in my amazement of actually seeing one of these cars for the first time I neglected to ask. Not that I was impressed but still, the hype surrounding the car had me a bit distracted.

So just before getting done I popped the question. "Hey there's a highway just down the road we can run it on, interested?" Guy says "I thought you'd never ask!" Ha! I was amped.

He follows me down to the safe spot and we slow to about 40. 3 beeps and it's on. He took a little hit and pulled out a fender. Momentum was quickly stopped and we stayed even all of 2nd and into 3rd. By the top of third I was inching out. Shift to 4th and it's GTO by a half car. I ran 4th completely out (140mph) and had a solid 2 cars on him. He hung in there good! I mean he did get a little jump but still.

He wanted 1 more race so I gave it to him.

Again 40 roll, this time I wasn't giving up any hits. 3 beeps and we started at the same time. I immediately started moving out. By 3rd it was a half car, nearly 2 cars by 4th, and about 3-4 cars by 140.

We chatted again real quick. I asked if the traction control was off, he said "Yup, remember I had a GTO I knew what I was going against! I was givin it all she had!"

That's my story and I'm stickin to it! The guy is from around here so if I see him out again I'll try and set something up with a video camera.

 

What do you trap at? 115mph? I'm guessing he's around 112 to 114mph trap.. good kill man.. I love those new GTs...

114.9 happened 1 time. Mostly in the high 113's.
I pulled him pretty good up top.

 

Yep, before this thread gets real bad: NICE KILL! That's a far more realistic run in with a new 5.0 than the 10 second shop built mustang that everyone expects. Much respect Juice.
