I've driven the 350 several times, and it's a really fun car. It doesn't have LS1 power, but does feel pretty torquey for a rice car. I'll admit, it's alot more fun than the T/A through the corners. When my dad 1st bought the car he took me through a 15mph turn at 60mph and had me gripping the door for dear life. I was amazed at how well it did......

exactly, the Z is a compromise
it loses some straight line speed for some cornering speed

it's just a trade off

How is the Z a rice car? It's a pure bred sports car. Bit on the heavy/underpowered side by modern standards, but a very nice car none the less.

yeah really it's as much of a rice car as lower end porsches are

they are capable of outperforming a lot of the lower end porsches and in a lot of people's opinion look better doing it too, for 1/2 the cost

besides, rice = what someone DOES to a car, not how a car COMES from the factory. That includes EVO's and STI's - even those big-*** wings are functional. They just resemble what a lot of people do to FWD civics or integras which can actually hurt performance

Definately a nice car. Nissan........Japan........Rice......."Most" 350's hang out with the "ricer" crowd also. Rice is a debateable term, take it how you wish.

Not true. Porsche=Germany, Nissan=Japan (land 'o' rice).

more japanese cars have been riced out than any other region. That's true

Doesn't mean everyone puts stupid crap on them

it's as much an insult as if I were to say LS1 cars are from the land of redneck

What "lower end" Porsche can a 350Z outperform for 1/2 the price?

In any event the driving experiences behind the wheel of the two cars are not similar. The Porsche is in another league in terms of handling, heritage, and all the other intangiables, and of course the little crap like interior quality, fit and finish etc, which I place a much lower priority on.

boxter, boxter S

the boxters will probably out handle the Z but the Z isn't too far behind, and it's way faster in the straights
boxters don't have much torque, etc

boxter S sells for $51,600
350Z sells for under 28k

you're paying for the porsche name

I mean, can anyone say a cararra is better than a corvette? same thing different price bracket

Where are all these $25K 350Z? Had never heard of that.

Of course that is a pretty lousy comparison since the two Porsche's you've mentioned are convertibles, I'd sure like to see you in a 350Z convertible for anywhere near half the Boxster.

You are paying for the name because it is a superior vehicle. It's not like a pair of sunglasses you can just pick up knock offs of that are 9/10 as good as real Oakley's.

actually boxter S's are now $54700
http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/boxster/boxster-s/

350Z enthusiast $28055
350Z base $26800

close enough to "half" for me

and I can't stand convertables so not an issue for me. I'd NEVER get a 350Z roadster. I'd rather buy a used elise (with hardtop)

Add the convertible please to your pricing if you want to play the price war game.

no

we're talking performance, not "I want the wind to breeze through my hair" debate

no one buys a 350z roadster and proceeds to do hardcore roadcourse racing in it when they can get a coupe for less $, weigh less, and have better handling and aerodynamics

Thats minus dealer mark up. I don't think you'll be out the door for those prices.

they're MSRP
yeah

I bet an extended warrenty on the boxters would be more than the Z's and they usually have even bigger mark up's than a Z

8% tax on the boxter would be more than the Z's too

I like hte 350Z all except for its aenemic output. Nice car, jsut slow. Also, it doesnt respond very well to mods, i mean, twins and they only make 350ish rwhp!?!? Seriously. Now, If they had a real motor under the hood it would be sick.

nah 350whp was 2 years ago

with the new kits out these days ST and TT Z's are doing 400-450whp pretty easy. One guy is doing 550whp on the stock block

even SC Z's are doing 440whp easy these days with full bolt ons. One or two guys are doing 475+whp on a supercharger

there's like 4-5 people that I know of that are doing 600+whp with a TT setup and forged engine

the power is there if you're willing to put the effort in. For the longest time the ECU/EMS was an issue and only recently has had some affordable options come out
