You hit 4th at 80? What gears you running, 4.56's or something? Good run. I'm surprised I haven't seen you around seems like we're in the same area. 163 is full of douche bags especially right where it comes off the 5.

Yeah you were definitely in the wrong gear then. I went back and checked, even with 3.73's I was shifting out of 2nd at 75. Probably explains why you couldn't pull up on him.

Good point. Sounds like he was short shifting like crazy.

yea, most likely. With my car having as many miles as it does, i try not to get too close to the redline.

Driver mod for the loss? Maybe. While driving my brothers IROC (ran 14.1 @99mph at time) I had a early stock early 90's Honda Accord with FIVE KIDS IN IT that I raced and lost to. I was stopped at a light, he was rolling up just as it changed and he passed me doing about 15mph just as I nailed it. By 110mph I was at his rear bumper and we had to let up for a upcoming red light -with all three rear passengers turned around and laughing. Ouch.

Thats a lot of life out of a clutch in a performance car. 141k isn't really that bad on an LS1, but the clutch I would worry about. My 2000 LS1 ran like hell and it had 160k on it, never had a problem. When I took the heads off it had so much carbon build up it probably had 11:1 compression.

yea, its starting to slip and so on, but i dont drive the car very much anymore, mainly to and from work. No parking lots other than my work. Just wanting it to last until September, but that might be asking for too much.

yea, i destroyed my girlfriend and her focus on that road. Kind of the same thing, came off the 163, she dropped down to 1st and took off, got out to about 1.5 cars, i just left it in 2nd, when i hit 3rd i was passing her, and by the time i got to 5 grand, i was about 4 lengths in front.

Yeah I saw one a couple years ago at a shop in Bham....Guy was puttin down 413hp to the wheels....In bone stock looking Impala, dude had even taken off the SS badging. It was a LS4 car that he inherited from his grandad and figured what the hell.....I know it was the ULTIMATE sleeper...I saw the guy take many many $100 bills street racing.

negative on the governor at 120 in the Ls4 cars. my '05 GXP saw 149, would've gone faster had reality not checked in.. i live in NJ, that's just too fast around here lol

I ran 14.1 @99 leaving it in D (big mistake it shifted to 3rd at about 75mph) by using the tap shift in M mode and holding 2nd to 100 it ran 13.6-13.8 @102 bone stock with 1k on it in cool weather here, it was decently fast for what it was. Had a run in with an orange Camaro SS 4th gen on the GSP once around 80mph, both had a passenger he tried to pass in the center lane and i hit it as did he, he pulled about a car to 120 (my front bumper on his rear) i don't think that outcome would've been much different between the OP & the Impy, as the op stated his car is a 140k+ stock clutch stock F body, what's he running high 13's @103?

PS if we're expected to believe your account of the race you need some answers for shifting to 4th at 80mph. I know u admitted not being john force but i'm pretty sure "Corky" would've held thrid a wee bit longer, hell 2nd if you're car really is stock hahahaha

maybe i shifted to third at around 80. i dunno, one of those two gears. I only run the car up to 5 grand, just to be safe. So, whatever gear winds the motor out to 5 grand around 80, thats what i went to.

Just like you said, my car is pretty much bone stock, and it is going to stay that way. Just like playing on the freeway or back roads, but no serious street racing.
