Default i got beat by an Impala!

Ok, now that i have your attention, i must tell you my story of pure and utter Embarrassment.

So there was this douchenuckle in a 2007ish black Impala SS driving up the 163 freeway friday i think. Cutting people off, riding asses, you know, just being a tool.

Just so happens i know the car, the guy lives in my apartment complex, and has dual exhaust on it, which make this car sound like a Silverado pickup.

so now that you have the idea, we got off the freway, and me driving normal, was right behind him at the stop light. I was still driving normal, then we turned onto a back road that is straight, Impala guy is started in front of me by about a car, and he floored it. Me, already being anooyed with this guy, floored mine to. Took off in second from around 20, and caught up to his rear bumper, but couldnt pass him, and we got up to 120. I was embarrassed. I am still embarrassed.

I am not that shitty of a driver, im no John Force or anything, but im not a small asian lady in a toyota minivan either.

So chalk this one up as a loss....

Impala SS with LS4 vs 01 Camaro SS with 140k on the ticker= Impala SS winning. Its a sad day.

i hate that damn car. Thats what makes it worse. It would be such a nice car if it didn't have that pickup truck exhaust on it.

At least it isn't all bad, the day before i was on the Harley and i have a few mods done to it, and smoke checked this dude in a S2000. It was glorious.

Dont feel bad man. Those LS4's run good from a roll and respond quite well to basic bolt-ons. Respectable death I'd say.

I wouldn't mind a Grand Prix GXP or Impala SS as a nice DD. I didn't think they were nearly that quick though! Must have some bolt-on's on it. Thought those cars were lower 14's with high 90's trap speed bone stock.

Yeah he definitely had some bolt-ons. Those cars only trap like 99-100 stock. My GTP has taken down a few of them pretty easily. Nice death though.

I had no idea those cars were that quick? There's gotta be more to the story that maybe you dont know...I drove a SS and they are not SS Camaro territory IMO, and they are FRONT WHEEL DRIVE!?

Yes they are front wheel drive and put out 303 HP to the crank from the factory. I believe they're a bit on the heavy side too.

As said, those LS4s run pretty well for what they are. He got a jump on you, I'm sure his car downshifted to 1st gear, and you started out of your powerband in 2nd. Sounds about right, good run

There's still no way that the Impala was close to stock. At 120 mph the LS1 should have been pulling pretty hard. He probably had headers, intake and a good tune. If not more.

exactly my point ..303 crank , and 320 underated crank for the camaro plus being lighter...camaro should easily walk it 10/10 times...but whatever lol nice race OP

Given a heads up race, sure... but when a slower car gets a headstart in the right gear, and the slower car is in too high a gear, that is hard to overcome.

even with all that, if he had more road he def would have pulled him. he said they ran out of road. i believe those impala's have a govenor at 120 anyway, so you def would have rolled by

Before my mods my car really fell off around 90, so given a little more road you would have walked right by him. The production run for the LS4 was so small most companies decided not to invest the time and energy to produce aftermarket parts. For example I only know of one company that made headers for this engine and it was a limited run based on preorders with deposits. You can get a ported intake or swap out a mod. LSx but you can not purchase an aftermarket intake, etc etc

When I worked at a Chevy dealership a few years ago, I had to drop a customer off and I drove the Impala SS. I had an 02 Grand Prix GT with a few mods at the time and that thing felt like a beast bone stock! Plus IIRC, first gear was at least 50mph.

^^ yeah first gear -50, mph second gear- about 100mph
my gxp went 13.9 @ about 99 mph, thats with only my cutout. for what it is its pretty good cuz you cant compare a LS4 to a camaro, check this thread out : https://ls1tech.com/forums/ls4-front...mpilation.html
