I don't know about being white and of African descent...but most black Americans I've met prefer to be called 'black' rather than African Americans.
I'm a white American, not a European American. Sure, my recent genes may have originated in Europe a hundred years ago, but I'm not European.

Also being black =/= being african american. if you were born in Africa and now become a citizen of America then you are an African american. You can be a Black Brazilian for instance. My wife is a Finnish Swede that happens to be white. I know Finnish Swedes that happen to be black. I know Swedes who are of all races.
same goes for being an inhabitant of any Continent/Country.
the rest of this thread sucks so i figure i comment on that.

You know why there is African American, but no European American? Because descendants from Europe know which country they came from whereas Africans were purchased as slave and no documentation of which country or region they were from were retained. To not understand that is to be ignorant of American history IMO. Color is different then the country you descended from. A white man trying to claim he is black is kinda ridiculous however claiming decent from Africa is a different story and realistic.

but in actuality those people are just american. like others that are born here and should be happy with that. same as people who are black or spanish yet have no idea where they lineage comes from. White american, black american, latin american ( granted there is already a region called latin america).
personally my parents are nigerian american. I was born here along with my siblings. We are just americans with a nigerian background....that happen to be black. I work with a kenyan american that is white. her kids would just be americans with a kenyan background that happen to be white.
