Default 95 lt1 ta vs another ta and a diesel.

Had two interesting kill stories on the way back from school today...

First came up on the interstate, a red 98 firebird driving by a dude with his girl.
I let them have the jump, we easily pulled past them, by time i hit 150, we had 5 car lengths on them. Not much of a story...

On down the road, came up on a red dodge diesel, jacked up on some 33s with a 6" exhaust. Saw it shoot out a puff of black smoke as it was swapping gears. Told my cousing, hey, i bet he will line up. Pulled up beside him, we both hammered it. He took us on the jump, he stayed within 2 lengths until i hit rougly 150 or so. Slowed down, and we went at it again. He damn sure gave us a good run, I had to hold the gears till about 6500 to pull on him. The damn truck sounded like a ******* jet engine taking off, he was pushing some serious boost.

And for the record, my car is a 95 transam, lt1, fancy air intake, straight pipe cutout exhausts. Oh, and a shitty tune job done by me.

I will say, the race against the diesel was a damn good one. The other firebird didnt stand a chance.

I wish like hell my cousin would have taken a few videos of them.

Was the firebird an ls1 or v6?

If it was a 98 then it was ls1 or a v6 probably 3.8

Not trying to rain on your parade, but how do you not know what engine he had, but are certain that it was a 98 firebird?

Not certain what year it was, and i was assuming by the dual pipes it was a v8.

Hell, far as i know, it could have been a 3800, It couldn't pull **** versus my t/a. But, on the other hand, he could have had the factory speed limiter at 115 like mine came with. The race against the diesel was much better anyways.

In all likelihood it was a V6. A properly driven (and good running) LS1 should beat you, even stock, at least by a little bit, so killing a V6 isn't really impressive.

What is impressive though is that truck. To hold close to 150mph in a truck (read:brickwall) means he had some good stuff done. It surprises me that he stuck that close but didn't pull on you at lower speeds. Oh well, good kills.

On the bottom end around 90, he did pull about a car or a half on me. After that, it started pulling on him. The other car, may have been a v8, im leaning more towards it was driver error, or they were just playing around possibily. And, I could be wrong about the 98, it may as well have been a LT1, and. once again, That diesel did surprise the hell out of me. Any truck that is jacked up on 33's or 35's that is full size extended cab that can hang with me at those speeds impresses the hell out of me. Hell, My silverado is pushing roughly 550hp right now, It couldnt have pulled off what that diesel did, and im sure it weights a 1000lbs less.

edit, im running open headers. I could hear the sound of its turbos spooling up over open pipes at 6000rpms, it was like music to my ears. That was indeed a badass truck. I wish i knew who it belonged to.

Ok, as for the Firebird, let's start with the basics...

Do you know what the differences in looks are in the 93-77 and 98-02 Firebirds are? They look totally different, so unless you just don't know the differences, it's pretty easy. I have a hard time believing you put 5+ on an LS1, so it was probably a V6. We have plenty of V6s around here with various dual tipped exhausts. The chances of it being a V6 (93-97 or 98-02) Firebird swapped with an LT1 or LS1 are VERYYYYY slim. 99% sure it was a V6 you beat.

Also, open headers sounds like ***.

As ive said 3 times, not sure exactly what year / engine it was. It was a firebird. I lit his *** up. I would also bet it was his girlfriends car and he was just playing around. 2. The open headers and 3 foot section of 3.5 inch pipe sounds pretty damn good if you ask me. Ill throw up a video Tuesday. Hopefully i can find a good race to/from work to file.

Hell, im tired of trying to prove whatever point your wanting me to prove here. To make you happy, ill say it was a 3800v6 driven by grandma.
oh, and those 3800 v6s can have some ***, my first camaro was a 2001 3800. Didnt have the *** my t/a had, but, it smoked a many of cars.
Anyways, the race i was really bragging about on this thread was the one against the diesel.

Not trying to prove any point, just wondering which you ran. It's really not that hard to understand, don't want you to hurt yourself trying to remember which car it looked like.

Looking at the pics, It was more of the lt1 style, the 97 - earlier.

Im not too good on recognizing the body styles of the firebirds / t/as.

And, yea, i do agree, the way i smoked him, i wouldnt doubt it was a 6.

But, there is always the chance that it was a lt1, and it could have been running properly.

I have not taken the time to tear down the engine in my car yet, as, i know its not the orig engine. I do know whoever put it in, threw a fancy plaque and serial number on the front of it. It doesnt act like anything modified or special, and the cam sounds pretty tame. So, i will go on and assume that it was just a replacement lt1. But, since, this is the only lt1 car I have driven, i may as well be hiding upon a tamly built 383 lt1, never know. Ill throw up a vid later.

Some of those diesel trucks can be beasts but most are all smoke and noise and little else. I love anhilating dude bros in their smoke stack soot throwing turds. I think they're great toys but racing? Please...

I like how he briefly mentioned the red firebird and It was literally a 2 sentence long story...and then there was an actual decent story about a race with a diesel...and people just nit pick apart what exactly the firebird was...1 post could have got all the info out that you guys will probably bitch about for 6 pages in the thread...

"98-02 V8 firebirds had LS1's
98-02 V6's had an optional Y87 that came with dual exhaust.

Most probably a 3.8 V6 Y87 if you beat him at highway speeds."

^this would have done it...stop taking it personally LS1 nutswingers! :end rant

Video incoming. Just killed another diesel. Looked like the other one, just was not nearly as fast. Kept my phone on video mode just in case something interesting happened. and, it did. Tommorow, hopefully at least ill have a passenger if any filming needs to be done.

Sorry, i really suck at taking video at 100+ while shifting gears.

edit. for the haters, i did specify the red whatever the **** it was, was a horrible race on his half for whatever reason. I dont care.
Video is processing for tonights diesel lineup.
