I **** in my hand and throw it at their car. That'll provoke anyone!
But seriously, i'll just do a short flyby and immediately brake to see if someone is interested, or pace them in a low gear and massage the throttle a bit.
If so, i usually hold up three fingers, if at a low speed i'll yell "three honks" and honk it off, or depending on the car i'll just motion for them to go and give them the hit. If it's a random person i never go on the third honk, i always wait after the last honk to make sure they're going to hit it, then i go.

My races usually result from driving the "usual" speeds on the freeway and having some dork decide I'm not passing. They usually lose their nerve when we hit triple digits. Rarely, however, I lose nerve, especially when the Escort 9500 tells me that there is an opportunity to fund the local police department up ahead.

They usually come in by text from friends. 8 times out of 10 they are much more built setups. (I.E. my boltons vs their H/C/I or my cam only vs their nitrous or H/C/I/Gears/Suspension/Kitchen sink).
As far as randoms, if I see a performance car I'll usually try to judge if they are the type to go for it before trying to throw out the bait. If its a stickered up import such as a SRT Neon or STi or something those are usually 100% biters. Wheel throwing from lane to lane and "LOOK AT ME! IM FAST!" driving are tell tale signs as well. Old guy in the slow lane in a C6 or SRT Charger isnt probably going to run. Thats a shot in the dark to go after him. Stock looking things are usually driven by "stock" people, ya know?
Well done muscle, or muscle that seems like its trying to make an impact such as a blacked out LS1 Camaro, lowered Term with blacked tail-lights, **** I dunno the kinda stuff where you know it when you see it. Those are the guys I'll go after. I'll usually pull up along side, throw a big rev and continue on at my normal rate or fall back to make space if theres traffic that will prevent a run up to 100 or more. Then I drop the pass window a bit so I can hear their engine and start watching and waiting. If I see them gear down or speed up to match speed or whatever, by that time Im probably already holding a gear.
Now I've tried 3 honking a bunch of different times but the other guy never seems to get it so I've defaulted to just nailing the throttle for a second, letting out of it and waiting till I hear their engine spool up before getting back into it. I'm not interested in getting any time of jump advantage. Its not about pounding chest to me its about testing my car against everything they got. People make the mistake of thinking this **** is F&F and a party full of modded cars, bikini hoes, food, drinks, drugs and truck load of lifetime respect awaits the victor of street racing.
Truth is, even if its on video, a few will watch and think its cool and move on, a few will watch and hate you cause of whatever reasons haters hate for and move on and that will be it. Unfortunately there is no party of bikini hoes afterward. Which is why I wish people would lighten up a bit and start racing more even races around here instead of always trying to set a ******* handi-cap or going after people that are way less modded...etc. Racings not fun anymore. Its all about wannabe cool guy attitudes and punk *** haters talking **** on local boards.

I've had that happen. Someone thinks "oh this guy must thinks he's so cool in his loud car, I'm not letting him over." So then I would just speed up slowly in 6th without going WOT and they'd just keep accelerating until they had to floor it to keep up, at which point I would go WOT in 6th and finish them off, or 4th if it were something worth blowing away.

I literally pulled into a parking lot with a bunch of cars/people on the pike, rolled down the window and said "I'm bored as hell, does anyone wanna run?" I got bites from an 06+ Si, some kind of older turboed escort, and an STi...there were a couple srt-4 neons and a brand new 2011 STi but they didn't jump out at the calling
