Default I have been challenged my a modded Eclipse.

A security guard at my work, who is about 22, just got a 1995 Eclipse CS-T with 92,000 miles. He bought it modded ( I think becuase I used to make fun of his Acura), and he says it will wax my car. He told me he beat an Evo with it at 12 lbs. It has a 18G turbo, some sort of APEXi fuel thing on the dash, exhaust, and some sort of intake. The car is kinda trashed and runs rich, as the fumes were making my eyes burn. He says he plans to change the head gasket, get it tuned, fix stuff, and run 18 lbs of boost. I told him I will run him. How will I do? Will I have my hands full? I was with him when he put a hurt'in on a new Mustang Gt, but that is not saying much.

A GS-T is a front wheel drive, so out of the hole you will own him. However the 18-g???? maybe a 16-g or a 20-g, turbo is a BIG upgrade on those cars and the Fuel thing is an S-AFC, which allows him to Add or remove fuel as needed at any RPM.

Tuned, he should be able to run a mid to low 12( on slicks), so take the needed precautions and drag his a$$!

Eclipse GSX is a runner thanks to AWD. The GS-T is slightly faster (less weight) but not as quick (normal fwd traction problems). Despite coming stock with only about 200 hp at the crank, getting a turbo DSM to 300whp is not hard, nor expensive. getting it to 400whp takes a decent ammount of cash. couple grand i believe, if memory serves. a 400fwhp gs-t I might worry about, but a 300fwhp gs-t i couldn't fear less... not from a dig anyway. From a roll it might be a contender still.

I got a friend who's bro's 92 talon tsi awd (same car, by dodge) runs 11s all day long. not bad at all for a 2.0L 4banger. of course it wasn't exactly cheap to get it to do so.

ask him if he has checked for crankwalk yet? haha

It may have been a ported 16G that flows like an 18g? I remember him saying it has a ported something or other.

OK, he may have a staged wheel also. So just keep in mind mid to low 12's and go from there! I always give the competition 2-3 tenths in their favor, it keeps me from doing stupid races!

LMK when he wants to do it, I would like to come watch. I am in Whittier!

Dude, Whittier is far from Thousand Oaks. He mentioned LACR, but that is even further. I am not that anxious to prove myself. I am probably hitting high 12s, so I may pull it off.

Oh, and what the hell do you have in your SRT4? I did not know they can run that well. Right in Z06 territory.

Nah, Thousand Oaks is a quick Fwy trip away! We usually race off the 91 and Central on Sundays, or on San Fernando Rd in the Valley.

I have a T3/T4 60-1 Turbo, 255lph Walbro in-tank, T-rex inline fuel pump with an Aeromotive regulator that spikes 1 pound of fuel per 1 pound of boost. The turbo is good for 500 hp, so I am just hitting its' effeciency at 352.9 to the wheels. I need to get a standalone so I can play with the fuel maps and clean her up.

If you are up for a drive, head out to Fontana Dragway this Saturday, going for an 11 !!!

get rid of the deltagate and go to a tial. and properly tuned that gst could be low 12's and if it's idleing that rich he probably has it set for 20lbs of boost which is more than doable on a stock 4g63 tell him to tune it for 24lbs a little race gas and dr and he'll see 11's an 18g is not a bad turbo it's what greddy uses in there gsr and si kits but it's a little old chool generates a lot of heat tell him if he wants to make power go to a t4 with a 1g intake and boost the hell outta it i could go into detail but you can make that car go 11's for about 3to4g if you spend your money wisely

Good God! You are putting to the ground what I am with half the engine. How do you work around the smog police here? I would love to get LT headers, but fear of failing smog prevented it. It is also the reason I got a Z06 cam. You obviously have a connection

Oh, and I doubt this guy will spend any more on mods. He will be spending his money replacing broken parts. As I said.....it is pretty trashed, but has potential to look good.

Run him from a stop, I don't think you'll have too much problem. I'd definately run him though. If you loose, oh well, step up to a 216/220 or tr220 with some drag radials and try again

Peace,
Josh

Yeah if he's running with flames shooting out (Walbro 255lph + probably no AFPR) it's definately not tuned. He's overunning his stock FPR big time especially if he has bigger injectors than stock. You should eat him up easily especially from a stop.

JGUNNAR, those are very good numbers and nice times. I agree with 68maro, ditch the Deltagate EWG for a Tial or an HKS.

an 18g is a mitsubishi turbo just not a popular upgrade.

--hijack--slomaro..Thanks. The time in my sig was my last run last season with the 14B. Car was barely tuned. Track closed early so I didn't get a chance to better it.

14B definately has potential. Btw it's Phil Reitman (GRNDSM) who actually has the record 14B time. I believe an 11.9 or something. He dynoed like 300AWHP on a 14B!!

Your times are looking pretty good. Your DSMlink setup is a plus although the $$ setup kinda gets close to getting a full standalone like a Haltech right? I'm personally shooting for a mid-high 11 this season hopefully. I currently have a 56 trim and some other goodies.--end hijack--

ZtwentyAte..as slowmaro said, the 18G is not a popular upgrade mainly due to it's price, not it's performance. Most people choose to jump from a 16G (300WHP capable) to a 20G (400WHP capable) and bypass the 18G which performance wise falls between the two. So well tuned, it can still pack a punch and would hold it's own very well on a GSt especially on a roll.

OK...three things..
1.) 22 years old
2.) works as a security guard
3.) has a foreign car

why even worry? Just race him and beat him bad.
