There's a local Lq4 engine that has 36k or so on it, guy wants $700. Oil pan and intake are trashed but otherwise says it is good. Since I'm planning a 408, all I really need is the block and heads...but on that note, I could buy this, stud it, and run it for a while and save a bit of cash up and build when it blows/when I'm ready instead.

No it doesn't. If that were true then by definition, ANY modification would then change the displacement of an engine since it gives the feeling of a larger engine due to the increase of power.
A blower does not change the dynamic compression of a motor. A cam does.
Do you think compression (whether it's static or dynamic) is a critical part of the motor? Be honest.
