Default '02 vs. an EVO 8?

So I've got this somewhat friendly rivalry going on at work. I've got my TA, he has his EVO. He's ripped a 13.3 I believe? Possibly a 13.0, he goes to the track pretty often I think. I have never really been. Lately we've been arguing about it more and more though. A fellow coworker and I both have 100 bucks saying my car will hand him his ****, he and another coworker have 100 each down claiming the EVO will take it.

Now, since he is more experienced at the track I'm getting somewhat worried. He is also the on his 3rd clutch (current one cost him $2300) and he's the type of ******* who will launch from 7800RPM. He's a real good driver, into SCCA and all that jazz. But I still have my hopes somewhat up. I have never lost a racem but street racing is VERY different. My stock tires are SPANKED, so I will definately need DRs. I'll need to practice my launches with them as well, not experienced with them at all.

As for the mods, I've got all the ones listed in my sig. Kooks 1 3/4" stainless LTs, with their 3" catted y. LS1 Motorsports lid with Holley filter, Hooker CB, Granatelli "budget" MAF. Car dynoed 340hp, 356tq with just the lid, filter, maf , and CB.

As for ther EVO, hes running SSR wheels with just continental tires I believe, some sorta boost controller, !BOV (for whatever reason) and a 3" catless exhaust.

So what's the news? I'll be so pissed if I don't spank him. He's a know it all 24 year old tech, I'm a, well punk 18 year old tech I guess LOL. Anyone had any EVO experience?

Go from a roll if you can.

If he's an experienced racer, he can easily get the R/T jump on you. And it's a sure thing he'll kill you in the 60', so make sure you race for the full quarter mile to give you the best chances. It might be ugly for you if he gets the R/T on ya.

However, with traction you should easily be in 12s in the quarter. You should beat him, but if he's a very good driver he could easily win the race. Be careful.

!BOV? His impeller (is that what they're called on a turbo too?) won't last too long without a way to get rid of all that excess boost when his throttle is closed. Not too smart of a move coming from a guy who's supposedly a tech.

Get the drag radials and practice launching a lot. Once you are comfortable bust his ***. From a roll I think you have him pretty bad. If he gets a good lauch and yours sucks it might not be pretty. But, like Enis said make sure you race the whole quarter mile. You should be able to over come his launch and pass him.

From a dig you will be playing catch up. He really should be running better than a 13.0 with his mods. If you go from a roll its all yours. From a dig tell him you want to race till 130 and i think you will win. You have a better shot at the track. You would hook better. If you can get traction and drive good you can win.But the odds are in his favor because of traction.

Look into getting LT's, a tune, and DR's and you'll take him. Practice your launch and like the others said. Make sure you go the full quarter or from a roll. If you want street tires. Look into the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. I used to be able to spin through 1st, and 2nd. Not anymore. They even grip at a 20 roll in 1st. I can't freaking believe it. The EVO's can be fast with a good driver but you have to tear the hell out of the car to launch well.

From a roll you shouldn't have a problem. Ironically I raced one last night while in limp mode (O2's) and still pulled on him pretty good 70 to 125 about 4 car lengths (I think) I forgot to post it in the kills. The A-hole was trying to cut me off. Dropped it in 3rd at about 70 and bye bye. He did a ricer flyby as I took my exit. lol

If you dynoed 340 without headers, you have a freak.
Get the DR's. Practice the launch. You will lose the 1/8th, you will win the 1/4. Run from 0 to 120mph and the race will be yours.

I'm on lunch break right now, talking **** about my Mitsubishi enemy. He's definately gonna launch off his rev limiter. It's obvious that I will have no chance off the line. Unforunately my suspension is all stock right now. I am upgrading to mostly LG Parts soon, a full setup. But even then, that won't help the situation at the strip.

No need to go all out and start taking crap out of the car. I'll run it like it is. What do you guys think I should get for DRs? I'll use my stock WS6 wheels, was gonna go with Nittos. I wish Mickey Thompson would hurry the hell up with their DRs. Any experience/oppinion on BF Goodrich vs. the Nittos? I think I'll just keep with the 275/40/17.

I think the BF's grip better than the Nittos (you really have to heat up the Nittos), but the Nittos perform better as rain tires and last longer.
I have Nittos and am happy with them. They bite hard.

If you have a daily driver get Nittos, if you have a weekend driver get BFG's. The BFG's get better traction. They cost about the same too.

Well I'm moving on up to 18s at some point. So these will be more of my drag wheels, per say. What do you guys run, the 275s, or the 315s? I usually don't agree with mounting a 315 on a 9" wheel, but I have no experience what so ever with a DR.

Here's a pic of the **** box

stock for stock a ws6 will take a evo 8 but a boost controller is a highly effective mod for the evos and if he is willing to burn 3 clutches on a car thats about a year old then good luck to ya. Just keep on him and you will pull on him after the 1/8 mile because their top end isnt that strong......

Yeah, those things will rip from a dig but die out before third. You'll have no problem pulling on him top end

man that's a shitload of power and torque out of essentially low-buck mods. one hell of a runner you got there.
