to kill a supra.how?
I have the 422. You'll have no problem with a little work. First, get the heads ported and polished. Replace all rings and bearings (you'll need it for your new cam). Always use Lunati cranks. Set up a dry sump oil system. RESLEEVE your cylinders. If a machine shop tells you this is an unnecessary step on an LS1 engine for that size bore, back slowly out of there.
Here are the cam specs you need.
Intake duration: 294
Exhaust duration: 306
Duration @ 0.050" (I/E): 239/251
Lift: 0.570"
Lobe separation: 106
This will rocket your car in the 4000-7000 RPM range. The maximum safe RPM on a 4" stroke is 6000 RPM. You can take it faster, but you'll most likely see what piston smear is. Get a torque converter, and a PCM programmer who knows what to do.
Forged pistons and rods are a MUST. DO NOT use this cam on a 422 without custom programming unless you want to see two heads blow themselves to pieces.
Yes, it will lope. Yes, it will shudder. If you want to try something REALLY cool, called the import eater LS1 by my friend who built one, go with a bored and destroked block. He's got the same cam as I do, but he's running a 4.150" bore and a 3.25" stroke. It changes the displacement to a 352 CI, but you should SEE the top end. While he moves less air, he can safely sustain that baby at close to 7500 RPM, with no discernable damage or undue wear.
Imagine the joy of stomping that Supra with a naturally aspirated LS1 engine!
From a dig, go with the 422 version. From a roll, go with the 352. Better yet, have two Camaros and get the best of both worlds!
Never guess at your engine modifications. Do the math first.
Good luck, and happy racing.

While i'm on the subject, Nissan needs to get it's *** in gear. we're at the apex of the second great muscle car/horsepower wars era, and they would have a guarenteed hit on their hands if they brought over a non-watered down skyline. look at how pressed people are getting over the sti and evo, imagine the frenzy over an awd sedan with real power. I think toyota would do well to bring something supra-like to market again as well. mid 90s was not the time, but now i think would be appropriate. i mean seroiusly, next year the mustang GTs are coming with 300hp stock, GTO has 350, and vettes will be sporting 400hp from the factory. even mid-level benzs, audis, and beemers are nothing to shrug off any more. to combat this surge in power from american and europe, nissan gives us the 350z, mitsubishi the evo, and toyota... what the **** have they got? the celica? the matrix? have they completely fallen off the performance map?
i for one would like to see some real cars out of japan again, if only for competition's sake.
and the r34 gtr is not the most feared, the r32 gtr or godzilla is the most feared. stock to stock the r34 will fall everytime. the rb motors are one bad motor as well tho, i would love to beable to see one. so i can show them that my 68 ls1 will put the smack down on them lol.

as for my setup in the 68, i will have shortie headers since longtubes wont fit, ls6 intake with 28 lb injectors, most likly all the other bolt ons, a yank 3600 stall, and i was thinkin about the stealth II cam, but i dont know. what do you think that setup will get me at the track with a set of dr's or slicks? thanks
daniel
IF an auto, send it to Rossler and get a good converter, 3.42 gears
IF a 6 speed, a good clutch and hardened output shafts, 3.73 gears
427 sleeved motor (many vendors) and 250 shot of N20 (need COLD plugs, 108 ocatane unleaded, good tuning, timing tuner for window switch and timing retard)...get a cam with up to .600 lift and about 244/236 duration (split but not reverse split)
NX GM MAF kit (NXL kit doesnt work well yet) dual stage 100 and 150 hp settings
HAL shocks
Varram air intake
should run 9's at the track and with a 250 shot, and no turbo lag, it should be great at a roll
