Default On way to work dust off - GTi Turbo

Things have been pretty lean for me for a few weeks, therefore I post my not-so-glamorous kill...

...on the way to work today and a GTi Turbo (Ground effects, alloys, the usual monochrome Neuspeed look) is filling my rear view mirror while we putput through a schoolzone. Luckily, the schoolzone turns off onto an onramp (the path to my daily commute ).

I drive spiritedly through the curve of the onramp, and he follows, quickly also.
We reach my favorite point, the 2nd gear 35mph punch to merge into traffic. I punch it and proceed to rev to 6800, shift, 3rd, about 85mph, I look back and he's a few buslengths behind. But , alas, I see the flyby/ catchup coming on. I decide there will be none of that and 4th punch it to about 115mph while pulling away from him. He turns off on his exit.

Oh well, as I said, not glamorous, but at least I had some company on my morning jab to work.

On another note, I was challenged at a coffee stand (one of the local streetscene hangouts) last night as I was simply getting coffee by a "setup" dude who wanted to set me up vs. a single turbo Supra. He's like, "yo, your car sounds mean" I'm like, "it sounds meaner than what it puts down, what's your Supra guy puttin' down? I'm good for high 11's/high teens, I'm sure if it's single turbo, he's good for 120-130. My clutch pedal just got stuck to the floorboard doing a 3-4 shift on the way here, but I'll give it a go." He told me not to worry and to come back next week after I have the Spec III put in. Dude was like something out of the movies, shaved head and everything. I was like
Anyhow, my car's not gonna kill any Supras from a roll, so next week maybe I'll show up with the 9" and SpecIII installed pimpin' somthin' from a dig.

I normally would feel the need to blast you for posting a GTI kill, but you handled it nicely, so "good kill".

Im not sure if you were being sarcastic about that, but if you look at the classic VW and the 1st and 2nd gen watercooled guys... there is a lot of truth to your statement... its funny though, seeing the 1st and 2nd gen guys ragging on the 4th gen guys... cuz the new VW's are too freaking heavy to warrant any halfway decent performance without digging seriously deep into the wallet... See, VW is about style, not necessarily performance... you either get it or you don't...

I would still much rather have an LS1 than my POS though!

Hey, Milla, my wife drives a 2000 Passat 1.8T.
It used to be mine . The Tiptronic is a great compromise for those whose better halves don't drive stick. And as the commercial mentions, that little 20valve sure's got some low end torque.

On the way to work today on the Xpressway, and guess who (Gti) I see charging up through traffic, flashing his beams at me.... traffic was thick though ... he waived hello. I made a friend I guess.

Nice kill. You would have had more fun if it were an R32 VW.

Funny you should mention the fly bye denial. I was driving to my GF's house one day around 9ish when I pass one that decideds to "mess" with me.

See him in my rearview attempting the same thing. I just got on it and kept it between third and fourth. This went on for about a mile until he got the point it wasn't happening.

Nice kill, Southie!

I heard about those. Is it just an upgraded turbo and suspension or a whole new motor? I heard those R32's are sick, though.

Cool... yeah, those 1.8T's are supposed to be one of the best turbo four-bangers out there right now...

http://www.vw.com/ click on R32 and check out performance... its a 3.2L VR6(bumped up from 2.8L) 4v engine...
