I call shenanigans on those high rwhp numbers (many of which were found to be dyno'd in a gear other than 1:1)... when a boss puts down less and is rated higher I just have a hard time believing it. Not to mention the 1/4 mile times don't match up with that kind of rwhp and the curb weight.
If not mistaken 370-380ish is what a new 5.0 puts down in stock form when dyno'd in 5th (1:1)... you can easily inflate the numbers by using 4th though.
Livernoise Motorsports claims they put down 375rwhp then 391rwhp after 2000 miles were put on their test car. So who knows... maybe 400rwhp is possible and I'm just jealous.![Cheers!!](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_cheers.gif)

As far as 1/4 mile times they have large range in times as well. Driver/track/prep/model of 5.0/ all play a roll. Best bone stock I have seen/heard is 12.2@114 ran up north. Auto was 12.3@112 up north as well. Average best is around 12.5-12.7. Then it gets worse from there. I have seen a few guys run 13.4-13.7 driving like **** and spinning hard off line.
This last week at tarck two guys showed up with a new 5.0 and a new SS. Buddies and they raced each other back and forth. The 5.0 driver ran high 13's all night. The SS ran low 14's. Swapped drivers and the SS ran a high 13 and the 5.0 ran a low 14. Both was on stock tires and both drivers was doing no real burn out and was trying to launch pretty hard. Bad part was another stock 5.0 was averaging 12.6-12.8 and another stock SS was running higher 12.8's and low 13's. Just shows driver plays a huge roll.

Manuals will be a little different depending on gear in it. They can have 3.31/3.55/3.73's. But the average is about 370-380 for them. Auto's avewrage 350-360. The boss averages about 395-405.

The 5.0 will dyno less in 4th then in 5th for the manual. I know from experiance. When they first dyno'd my car they did in 4th not knowing the 1:1 gear was 5th. They redid it in 5th. The car made 14whp more in 5th if I remember right and 23wtq more. The auto's are dyno'd in 4th. Boss makes more power then the GT. On average about 20whp more and actually 10wtq less.

Then how does a gt make 400rwhp stock and a boss pulls less than or equal too?
Fwiw the 4th vs 5th thing has been speculated since the cars came out. If a 5th gear pull makes more you will have to convince me a stock 5.0 puts down 410+ rwhp which is going to be hard.
Is it possible this is an STD vs SAE issue?

According to this a 4th gear pull makes significantly less rwhp on the dyno than 5th. Now I have no idea what to think. Lol

There was a guy at the street machines nationals in springfield getting a 2011 5.0 dynoed. He only had headers on the car so far and according to the dyno sheet, it dynoed in at around 390 rwhp.

I wasn't yanking your chain...I am sure when guys quote the dyno #'s of their new 5.0s they use the 5th gear 1:1 numbers...I feel bad for the poor schmuck running around quoting his 4th gear numbers with no idea that his car actually makes more power (on the dyno) in 5th gear than the 4th gear he tested.

And I guess I had that wrong, I had read somewhere that there were stock 5.0s dynoing around 400, but maybe they were rounding up.
I think my dad needs some better tires too. He's just got the PZero Neros, the lower all season brand of PZeros. If he slapped some wider PZero summers on there I think he would've launched a lot better.
When my rear diff breaks and I upgrade to a Fab 9, I'm gonna have to get him to come with me to a drag strip and try a few rounds...but I'm not going to the drags until I've upgraded my diff.
I had a blast racing him though, and I hope you guys enjoyed the story. I'm sure there will be many more to come.
