Finally got a race
Coming home today I was at a stop light and passed by a Honda S2000, I noticed it had an aftermarket exhaust with bigger tips and blacked out rims on it with a young guy driving it. I've never faced one of these cars before, and wasn't sure if he wanted to race. I didn't bait him, but I think as soon as he heard my car he baited me.
I watched in my rear view mirror as he weaved in and out of cars to catch up next to me. Finally on the highway going 65MPH or so he pulls up next to me, waits a few seconds and nails it, in response I floored my car also. Took me a few seconds before I caught back up and we both had to slow down due to traffic. The traffic begins to lighten and when he sees a chance he floors it, I see him coming up in my side mirror and watch him do his ricer fly-by. After flying by I threw my hands up, high enough to he could see, to show him I was a little disgusted with his "fly-by" and wanted a fair race, he got on the brakes and slowed down allowing me to catch up to him.
This time I got along side him and looked over. He wouldn't face me, which kinda pissed me off more. I didn't feel like pulling the same move he did where he just guns it, so I honked it off, going 70MPH 1-2-3 and we both nailed it. For about 1 second his car hung with mine, which surprised me, after about 3-5 more seconds he was about 2 car lengths behind me and I had hit 110MPH, at this point I got on the brakes and slowed down.
He came up alongside me again, to be a good sport about it I looked over and gave him the thumbs up, he still didn't look at me. But he quietly drove off, going 70MPH to my 65MPH, he turned off a few miles later. I was pretty confident I had that race in the bag from the beginning. But it's not often that people mess with my car, it's usually me trying to bait the other driver into playing around. Lately I have backed off that and just drive casually, but if someone wants to play or challenge me, I will play back and put them in their place if I can.
I've never raced a Honda S2000 before, but I was aware that unless his car was highly modified, that he was highly outmatched. My guess is his car was a 2000-2007, I read that they had 240HP going 0-60 in 5.5 and the 1/4 mile in 14.3. I also read that they weigh about 2,800 lbs, that's 640 lbs less than my car. But either way, 350HP is going to pull a lot more than 240HP, as I showed him today. Felt good to give my old girl a work out!

Why are people so afraid to look at the other person during a little friendly street race? Granted, not everyone is like that, but I would say half of the people I've raced refuse to look.
The other thing is everyone just wants to do ricer fly-by's, no one actually wants to honk it off and do a real roll race. I ALWAYS end up honking it off.

Good kill. The '00-'03 cars and '04+ cars have some key appearance/mechanical differences, but would perform similarly in this case. On a PERFECT day you're talking about a high 13s car that has the potential to trap 100-102mph, so you didn't have anything to worry about. Still ridiculously fun cars, and I hope to own another one in the future.

I have also wondered why some people do not look over and after many years have come to the conclusion that they do not know the rules of the game. They are basically newbies to whole car thing and are not familair to setting up the race. When I see this, I usually stay clear of people like this becuase you just do not know what they are going to do..

Pretty expensive cars too. I guess an '06 is going for around $20,000 for the average price.
I understand it's more of a track car, could probably beat my car in the twisties, but on the straight away I have the edge.

Good kill! I raced an S2000 with my stock 1994 Trans Am years back and it was dead even. It made for a great race, but not going to give an LS1 much trouble without some decent mods.
I love it when people instigate races with me, but usually I have to try to get their attention.

An S2K stock isn't much of a race for a stock LS1 unless you have a less than average driver in the LS1 and an exceptional driver in the S2K.
Good Kill... I've heard bolt ons don't do a lot for them but the FI S2Ks move out.

Good kill. Those S2000's are only a little bit faster then a V6 Mustang though, so not much of a challenge. That being said, I've raced 4 or 5 of them because they always instigate it. And I always enjoy dishing out the ensuing beatdown.

You mean the new V6 Mustangs? They are pretty quick, still not going to really mess with an LS1 though. Any V6 besides the 3.7 Mustang is going to be slow as *****.

Nice kill man, those S2K's have potential... by that I mean the engine bay is big enough for an LS1 But seriously, don't underestimate them... they are light and the F20 can hold a good amount of boost on stock internals.

Those new V6 Mustangs aren't exactly slouches though...
