My brother has a '87 IROC: He took the 305 to it's limits with a SLP T-ram intake, twisted wedge heads, mid sized cam, SLP headers/cats/catback, speed and marine TB, TCI 3000 stall, 3.42 gears, custom chip, full BMR suspension and a bunch of other stuff that netted him low 14's @ 98-99mph.

Pitiful.

He then dropped in a crate 350 with 10 to 1 compression and got it into the high 12's with those same parts. lol

Psht, she can't drive. And seriously though, it's dropped on shitty suspension with shitty 18's. In August here in Phoenix (over 3k DA?), I went 17.8 at 82 I think. Clutch hates me, and the ******* AWESOME 2.4 60's made for a great night.

Where did your brother get his hands on a T-ram at? I believe that's the intake used on the 3rd gen Firehawk. Rare piece!

Now that I think about it, I believe SLP use to sell those seperately. One of the best manifolds for the TPI motors.

There have definitely been 305 builds that moved out well. A guy in our car club in college, years back, built his 305 Firebird and ended up running 13.8 @ 104 with it. Carbed motor, stock bottom end, 5-speed. He could never launch it well on the street, but from a roll he ran door to door with my bolt-on LT1 Trans Am.

I've always had good luck with 305's. Hell I had a stock one with only exhaust that was as fast as this turd I've got now when it was stock. They def are sorry but they're hard to kill!

I love 3rd gens but thirdgen.org is just too comical. The word "MULLET" is censored from the website as if if were profanity

and yes some of those old farts are still modding the TPI and spend $$$$$ to run 12's and not even make 400rwhp

That's ******* awesome. They might as well just have an open invitation to ridicule them.

Yeah the T ram is a badass looking manifold but the TPIS miniram and holley stealthram outperform it above 5500rpm. He got the very last one SLP had left when they were selling them, paid like $2,000 for it. The hardest to find part is the eccentric pulley linkage that a auto car requires. He has been offered $3,500+ dollars for that intake by collectors multiple times but refused to sell. Even though he now has a Stealthram intake for it sitting on a shelf.

Here is his cars (91 vert and 87 Ttop):

His boat is badass too!

Those 3rd gen 'hawks went bottom 13's@107-108mph, and 12's with just tires. Faster than any LT1 Firehawk ever produced. Like Sticks-n-Stones said, the intake wasn't as good as some others but a huge improvement over the stock TPI.

The boat is a "keeping up with the jones" thing combined with brotherly competition. We have ALWAYS competed to see whose car was faster and who was the better driver.

I got the GTO and he was faster stock, then I modded up and beat him, so he dropped the trick flow heads and got AFR 195's and a bigger cam, so I did a heads/cam and one-upped him again: he was planning a LSx swap until I did the full 402 build and got a nitrous kit. lol so he gave up on the car and got the boat.

A badass 26' Eliminator with a stout big block and more aftermarket mods then you can shake a stick at. Couple thousands watts of stereo with 12 speakers and 3subs build into the plush custom interior plus 78mph on GPS with a jet boat like midrange punch. The mods had to have cost as much as the cost of the boat itself... Seriously. He got a screaming deal on it for $18k and only a few years old... though he had to drive 4 states away to get it out of lake havasu.

!!! Now he is badgering me to buy a offshore boat myself so we can race each other. !!! I can't swim in the deep end of that money pool!!!

My brother has an 87' z28 with a 305. It has intake, full exhaust,a cam,700r4,some sort of heads, and 3.73's and with all that he bet that my bolt-on 98' trans am had no chance. I'll tell you like this my buddies tpi gave me a better run.
