Lined up against 1995 Eclipse GSX last night
My friend called me up and said his buddy just got his new car on the road and was looking to get some races to test it out.
His car is a 1995 Eclipse GSX with the following mods list:
1991 Turbo Cams (slightly more lift and duration compared to the 95+)
ARP head studs
OEM 3g lifters
EvoIII16G ported by FP w/ new OEM 1g waterlines FP Blue Oil Drain tube
Hallman Pro Manual Boost Controller
Walbro 255HP Fuel Pump
Aeromotive AFPR
FIC 850cc Injectors
GReddy Type-S BOV (Recirculated). Might switch to Tial recirculated BOV since I don't like the sound of the Greddy.
INJEN polished intake with K&N open air filter
Home made catch can
ETS (Extreme Turbo Systems) Custom FMIC Hot pipes are ETS powder coated Black. Cold side is Dejon Tool stock route
ExtremePSI J-Pipe for FMIC
Megan Racing true 3" Turbo Back exhaust
Punishment Racing o2 housing venting to atmosphere
ACT revised 2600 clutch kit with street disk
ACT street lite flywheel
Stainless Steel braided clutch line
B&M short shifter
A/C condenser and pulley removed
The car made 330 whp and 360 wtq on 26 psi and he hopes to run mid 12's with it. Very clean car.
My G8 has full exhaust, cold air intake, UD pulley, tune, and drag radials (no spray for these runs):
I had a passenger and he was alone.
First up we decided to try a 1st gear roll, but we never discussed mph, so I lined up at about 25 mph and started honking. I jumped out a little and then pulled maybe a little over a car, where he slowed by pull, but never started pulling back. After the run he said he was really high in 1st and probably should have been in 2nd.
We decided to try a lower speed and lined up again at 10 mph. 3 honks and we hit it, this time with a much closer race, but with me slowly pulling out.
There was no one around, so we lined up right away for a dig run. His car sounded awesome on the 2-step, but he wasn't able to hear my honks and I got a good jump. He spun a little, but was still able to pull back some, probably getting to my front fender before I stopped him and started slowly inching back out on him. It was a good run and we'll definitely try to get another dig in so we can see how they do with a clean start.
We pulled in to chat for a bit and my friend told him to try brake boosting. We went back out, this time at 30 mph, with him in 2nd and me in 1st. He brake boosted and when we jumped on it the cars were pretty neck and neck. I probably had a fender on him and through each gear he would slowly pull even, but then lose the fender on each shift. We pretty much went back and forth like that until we let out at 130+.
We tried spinning around for another dig, but there was a car broken down on the side of the road so we called it a night.
Not the cleanest runs ever, but it gave him an idea of how the car runs and got him a little seat time driving it. I think that with brake boosting and power shifting he'll be able to pull on me a car or more. From a dig I have no doubt that he'll take me once we get a clean start. We have a couple more cars to set him up against and I plan on lining up against him, so we'll try to get some good video.
Real nice guy and it's always good to run into people who aren't afraid to beat on their cars a bit

Like i said Ron, nice runs and good kill. The owner wasn't kidding, 25mph is an awful spot.
That's a DSM that's very well prepared to make that power reliably for years to come, with room to grow should the owner choose to.
The DSM community needs more cars built that way.

I was very impressed with the overall condition of the car and it ran strong from what I could tell. With a good launch I don't see him having any trouble hitting his goal of mid 12's or better.
It's the kind of car that I'd love to run into in a random encounter scenerio. Very clean, with no real idea of it's capabilities from the outside.
I believe he has a motor build and bigger turbo planned as a winter project.

Nice runs and good story as always. I'm with the others it's always nice to see DSM's that aren't all beat to hell and look nice plus run good too.
If I was to ever want an import a car like that would be exactly what I'd want.

Thanks guys! It was a blast and I can't wait to see some more races with the car. I think he already has a track day lined up for it.
Sticks n Stones, yeah it's AWD. I'll pass along the compliments about his car, I'm sure he'll appreciate them.
I'll be sure to post up any dig runs we get.

Good kills! You car runs real strong, man and I see you're still out there running your car..good for you.
BTW..I just could not help but notice his long list of mods compared to your FOUR (4) mods....and you still pulled out the wins!!!
I would have to say you made the right choice in cars..

How do 2nd gen GSX's compare to Evo 8 and 9's, weight wise?
Thanks! True he has more mods than me, but he also made 210 hp stock vs my 361 hp.

Not real sure on weight but awesome runs! I've always been partial to both the talon tsi awd and eclipse gsx of those years, as well as the G8 cars. I used to walk past a couple tsi's on the lot when I was in college catching a bus and would dream of having one. There was a burgundy one in particular that was eye catching (tsi awd '95).
