The 996 is still a liter bike. Regardless of what manufacturer's logo is on the tank. Ducati's are great italian bikes. In my opinion just not worth the money unless you use em for what they're made for. The track (not your 1320).

I don't know about making it down there this weekend. I have to work unfortunately. I will however be off on Friday, so maybe we can make a trip tomorrow night? No telling what the weather will look like. Even Friday night is a possibility.

I'll have to get with Cody and Kris.

Oh I forgot to mention, both guys had traction problems in the busa video. The Busa was spinning the rear tire in 3rd gear at 70mph when they started the roll on and lifted the front end when he hit fourth so he had to get out of it again.

Someone throw him a Prozac before he gets his panties in a ruffle!

Proving someone wrong over the internet is impossible (what's that saying?), there are many factors to consider...as I'm sure you know. Attacking someone on the internet is also politically incorrect. Having a discussion is more civil. It's like me just immediately posting, "your car is slow, dead slow and I KNOW this."

My MASTERS degree is in software engineering and I'm working on my PhD.
I have a minor in Math and Physics...if that matters. I don't mean to cause
any bad feeling but man, you need to RELAX. Don't immediately attack someone
and tell them they are DEAD WRONG. Can we be friends?

Well...it doesn't even compare to a GSXR 1000, '04 R1, ZX-10R, or CBR1000RR up top. You said your 929 traps 130mph in the 1/4? There are guys up here in DFW that are trapping 130-131mph on their R6s...

guys, not trying to bash anyone again but im asking you please lets keep this civil.

We might be setting up a very nice race and getting it on video so DONT GET THIS THREAD LOCKED UP or it would ruin it for myself, 929 and his friends, 2002Z06Yellow, as well as many other people interested in watching this vide (if it happens).

929, so can you make it tomorrow? Let me know my bottle is empty! . Ill get it refilled today just incase. Hope you can show up tomorrow cause it will be cool as hell.

Ill try to get a couple cars rolling with us so let me know if we're still doing this.
My buddy has a Trans am (viper steel grey colored) has heads and cam car and spraying (a little over 500rwhp on spray - 100 shot) and his friend has a white Trans Am with a 408 and heads cam and spray as well. Both of them are recent 98+ models.

Let me know how serious you guys are so I can make the phone calls. If you guys want to keep it simple with just 3-4 cars we can do that too (lots of cars like that rolling together could get too much attention by the police).

BTW, Do your buddies have a digital camera and a radar detector?

it is kind of ironic that i came to your forum..i had no idea what it was for other than someone had posted a message on here about cars racing bikes...the ironic part is i would like to pick-up a 2003-05 ws6...no about the bike part ..i've been riding for 10 years and raced many a car ..i have mainly had big bore GSXRs and can saftly say that MOST cars dont have a heart beats chance in any fashion beating a 1000cc sport bike made since 98..the power to weight ratio is just to high...i used to do have a 84 cutlass that ran in the high 12's..then i got a taste of what a sport bike can do...at half the cost...

R1's and GSXR 1000s run 9's all day. no chance to beat them unless the rider sucks.

hey just a news flash, but the ONLY way an R1 is going to lose to a z06 is because the r1 wasnt racing or the z06 just happens to be an LPE tt z.

edit: also, that 929 is going to lose to the z06 on the top end... the 929 is SLOW compared to the 1000rr's and even slower compared to the 05zuk 1k, 04+ r1, and 04+kawi.

Unless you're running 9's I wouldn't **** with any bike around 1000cc. UNless they can't drive it. I wax 10 sec cars with my CBR954 all the time. And don't hate on the RX7 V8 swap. They can be killer fast.. And if someone wants to race one too 200mph I gotcha right here. I don't care.

Lightbulb

Very good reading here; except for the slanderous profanity

By their own admission, quite a few cars on this forum have not raced many crotch-rockets. I've roll-raced probably more than 3 dozen crotch rockets over the years, modified and unmodified, including late model Gixer 1000's, R1's and a couple 'Busas; granted not all were wins .

Many riders are either not great riders, not brave enough to go very high speeds, or not great riders at very high speeds.

I NEVER attempt a race against a crotch-rocket at less than 90 mph, which just so happens to be an excellent speed for my 3rd gear .

Aerodynamics give a car a better chance against a crotch-rocket entering mid to high triple digit speeds. It's been my experience that bikes lose a LOT of their "oomph" above 150 mph.

I'm glad others posted most of the formulas and saved me the time of loooooong boring attempts of explanation

On a side-note, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE a late-model RX7 with an LS1

a street roll(especially from a second gear) is not comparable to drag times... so dont confused urself with those..

I am assuming this guy is the 02 Z06 you're talking about?

So let me get this straight ... you pulled up next to an R1, and went all out racing him ... he does a standing wheelie ******* around. You edge him out and call a victory!?!? You're kidding right??
So let's say a civic comes up to race you ... he goes all out while you do doughnuts ... does that mean he won???

Come on now. Unless you have some serious mods in that Z, you're not touching an R1 unless the guy falls off the bike, or is just kidding around with you, as the one you raced obviously was.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE
most bikes run sub 6 1/8 times.. and 9sec ETs
most cars that run sub 6 1/8 times are 8 sec cars
I'm not sure where you got these numbers from, but let's think about this.

I'm taking a look at my 10.89 second 1/4 timeslip. I hit the 1/8 mile in 7 seconds, at ~100mph. The 1/4 was finished in 10.89 @ ~126. So by your logic, it took my 10 second car 7 seconds to get to 100mph, and 4 seconds to go from 100-126mph.

Now let's compare that to an R1 timeslip. One of the seemingly average slips I found was a 10.40@ 133.82mph. He passed through the 1/8 in 6.3837 seconds at 116.32 mph. It then took him 4 seconds to go an additional 18mph.

So my 10 second car gains 26mph in 4 seconds, while his bike only achieves 18mph ... HOWEVER, his bike is also starting 16mph ahead of my car, which needs to be incorporated. I believe it would be safe to assume that the difference in acceleration between the 2 would be insignificant from 100-130mph (meaning they would run pretty much dead even). From 130+, my car would start to have the edge.

So using your logic, my 10 second car would have it's hands full with an R1 from a dig, and run real close from a high speed roll. Now explain to me how your 12.8 second stock Z06 is going to compete with that? Even if you COULD race to 160-170mph, there is no way you would be able to make up the buslength(s) he put on you from 60-130ish (unless maybe, he was doing a wheelie??)
.
