You mean it was "underrated" 450 hp.

ok, her car could be a stock rebuild and run mid 13's in the 1/4. that's from the factory with the ls5 454 I believe. the ls6 was around the same becasue of course no traction. I drove a 70 ss454 and it was real quite and it drove nice, 4 speed muncie. I tell you tha was the fastest car I have ever driven. I got the damn thing sideways going 65 down the highway. it had 3.73 gear and it was awesome. what I found out is, it was really a 468 in the car and the exhaust was keeping everything tame becsue he had stock mufflers with silencers right after. talk about a sleeper. but it had 255 out back. just a litle bit of info. most likely you will win, if she can drive and have some decent 60's with some extra performance under the hood she could walk you. oh it's a hydramatic 3 speed. it's usually th350 or 400. should be 400 behind the BB.

I just got done watching Car n Driver and they had a 1970 Chevelle SS with the 454 LS-6 rated (under rated actually) at 450 HP. The car did 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.8 seconds. Of course this was stock and no extras, the way it came off the show room floor in 1970. A bad *** car but I could take it.

Sure, it was 450 underated, but they are gross numbers. I wish I knew how to convert a gross rating to our net ratings...

Anyway, a Chevelle is a heavy car. Also, the times we see from the 70's are with crappy tires, and you know most people with those cars now have wimpy 225's on a 7 inch rim for example.

But I don't think high 13's from a 400 car is very impressive.

A 66 chevelle with a BB is actually not that heavy. 1968 is when they got heavy. The 66-67 only weighed around 3400 lbs with a BB.

yeah a ton of difference, mid seventies= no power. truck motor=less power. truck 454s suck stock- but can be built just like a LS6.

Too much variation to tell anything. They probably used a truck block but thats it from the truck stuff. Could be anything from 300-600hp and still be very streetable. I would guess that it will be a close race.

With the way you describe this 454 I'd say it's probably putting down no more than 250 rwhp with maybe 400-450 rwtq. The key here is what heads and cam are in it ? Stock truck port heads won't be beating anybody. 049 or 781 heads and a mild performance cam, decent exhaust and intake will take it to the 350 rwhp range. It IS a BBC so the sky's pretty much the limit with these things. It could easily be putting down 500 n/a rwhp in a very streetable package too. Not enough details to tell.

I have been trying to get more details on her engine but either she is really closed lipped or she does not know herself.

I am trying to get the race scheduled sooner. Even a quick street race before the track.

I'd go with the latter...

She might be on a Chevelle forum asking the same questions you are asking.

I'd imagine your either gonna beat her pretty bad...or lose pretty bad. If its still stock you shouldn't have to much trouble, but it doesn't take much to make a 454 haul ***. Just make sure you race your race, and don't smoke the tires off the line.
