Lol I'm curious what he says to our mutual friends. I'd definitely do an Ls swap on any old car I'd get my hands on.

Good kill. I highly doubt said camaro lost by half a car to a C6Z unless on 1/8th track and C6Z spun off line bigtime.

Nice kill. The fact is a "built" 355 is gonna need to be a SERIOUS build to compete with modern tech..you pulled easily on him.

If I were him I'd throw in a stock 454, start saving $$ then when it blew up I'd make it a "built" 454..no disrespecting the tried and true 350 but it can only go so far with those cubes.

been there, done that. basically what i learned with the "old" engines is that a HP per cube was cheap and easy. you can have a good high compression good flowing 350 and still lose to an 87 octane 454 running a cheap cam on stock heads.

LOL I kind of expected your win based on the thread title. I know that anything can happen and that could have been an LS swapped '76, but I've run a 'built' one before...

Both manuals, from a dig...

If you would have hooked off the line, you would have rape trained him, IMO. The rolls shows the ridiculous difference in power.

I did too, I'm just not cocky. I didn't wanna hype my car up in case I lost, and look like a fool. I had a built 350. 40 over, huge cam, aftermarket heads and intake, 4 bolt mains, etc. didn't hold a candle to my current car.

I'm the same way. Either way, good kill. I wouldn't say you need MORE rubber, but I think you might wanna look into some better rubber to hook

Yea, I think I'm just gunna pick up some 315 35 17 drag radials for my current rims. I did all my races (these, and the cts-v) on terrible sumitomos. Lol.

I want to go! Give me an address or some place nearby that I can plug into google maps. If I don't have a non car related thing to do Sunday, then I'll be down.

you didn't hear him sail hatan: better rubber versus more rubber. save the weight that those big rims/tires add because it's unnecessary: a good 255-275 width tire on 17-18" rims is all you need if you buy the right rubber. Go to TireRack.com and basically buy any of there Extreme Performance Summer Only tires - which are the autocross version of drag radials. If I don't have traction issues with 265/40/17 Star Specs on a IRS equipped GTO then you should be fine also.

Well I was just gunna go with the size I already have. No use in me buying rims as well. Plus the 315s are aesthetically pleasing, haha. My buddy runs low 8s, high sevens on the same 275 tire that the camaro had. I'll eventually get a drag wheel set up.

unless you have an 11 inch wide wheel, dont go with a 315. 10 inch wheel 295-305... and 8-9 inch wheel go 275.

R888s are awesome on the street since they are a Nitto compound.

Nice win, I also had a 2nd gen. 79 Camaro with rebuilt 350 .40 over, 10:1 compression, "mild" cam and 3.73's. I bought all the parts for the engine, and did a restoration on the car.

When I had my 79, I got stomped on by a newer GTO (not saying I expected to win) and I quickly realized that the old technology, unless a LOT of money was put into it (big gears, big cam, aluminum heads, possibly forced induction) has a real hard time keeping up with newer technology especially the LS series.

I sold my 79 and saved up to get my current WS6

Ever since I got my WS6, i'm not going to lie... I don't miss the 2nd gen very much.

It's true. I had a buddy that built a heads and cam fox, made 275rwhp, said he was gunna drag my car. I don't think my car EVER had 275hp. Lol. Another buddy built up a fairly stout small block ford, and took me for a ride. Had a cage and radials and all. Wasn't impressed. He made 320ish hp and ran a mid 12. Same goes for a lot of my SBC friends. Head cam bottom end intake carb and still barely making over 300. The best part of the ls1 is I'm making right at 400-410 and I'm cam only.

Must be how the new 5.0 guys feel when they go up against h/c ls1's with only bolt ons.

Most of the "Old Tech" that my friends run in their street cars would wax most of the cars on this site.
