Default Mustang Bros. fear the "Big Bad Bonneville"?

Driving: 1990 Pontiac Bonneville, just replaced front brakes.

I was doing a crisp 85 on route 1 (just passing menlo park mall) when TWO 2002-03 mustangs pull by, doing a bit of weaving and taunting in the process. One is a yellow GT, the other a silver cobra. Don't remember which had a spoiler. Anyway, Pete (stangmanwithls1dreams) who is sitting next to me throws a few glances and a few hand motions to the guy driving the cobra. He notices but seems to ignore us.

I cut into the middle of 3 lanes and floor it past a few scrubs going the speed limit. The yellow GT was in the fast lane; I quickly passed him and cut in front and he didn't seem to notice. I spent another minute passing cars in the fast lane until I see the cobra in the middle lane about 5 carlengths up. The fast lane was now moving slower then him, so I slide to the slow lane and begin to pick up speed. I pulled next to him, past him, cut in front of him, and slowed down to let him catch up.

After another minute of some more words and hand motions out the window, the Cobra slides right into the slow lane, and more hand motions and breaking is done to try to get us side by side. I cruised up to a light going about 25 in a 45 just to give him room to pull in- and too my amazement, he hung back. Nothing. All the room in the world, and me going 20 under the speed limit, and for whatever reason, the spiffy Cobra just didn't want none of the Bonneville. I pissed on a snake and it just slithered away. Boo-yah.

Maybe if you would have been in the mini van they would have taken you up on your offer.

Yea, I'm just wondering why there was no response at all... i mean i pulled some tight turns around the both of them and they didn't even try. Maybe they were scared.

I'm sure they feared the awsome power of the 3.8 liter.

I was just cruising in the fast lane like I normally do when they started playing some games. I tried to join in and they backed off. *sniff* no one wants to play with the Bonneville.

Awsome 3.8L, nah.

Feared 3.8L, I guess so.

Haha... well, they also could have been a bit afraid of getting caught street racing. Here in NY, you get arrested, no questions asked, if caught. I mean, is it really worth the risk of getting arrested or at least a huge fine and lots of points, just to smoke some bonneville?

Route 1 permits high speeds in some areas. Farther up the road it gets a bit touchy, but the area I was in had no roads crossing over for a bit, and only one or two offramps. Good area to speed. It wasn't like I wanted them to race me, I would obviously get killed.

In jersey the unwritten rule is you don't let people push you. If someone steps up, you show them who's boss and then it's over. I wanted to see what they could do, and all they did was back off.
