My first car was a 80 Chevette...brisk was not a term that I would use for it.

I did get pretty good at changing timing belts on it; good thing it wasn't a interference motor.

A few months after I got my first car ('94 Integra GS-R) it threw the original timing belt... it IS an interference motor, and there was no damage. I guess I got lucky with it letting loose at idle.

I had to change the starter on mine. For being such a tiny motor they found a way to tuck it in where it's hard to reach. That car did get me into a bar without having to pay the cover.

The reason there are so many boosted 2Vs that barely run stronger than a good bolt-on (or bolt-on/cammed) car is because people put centrifugal blowers on them (like the Procharged car in the OP) and tend to leave them with stock gearing. Centri cars love to rev, and the stock rearend gearing just kills them. So a centri ~380rwhp stock-geared 2V is gonna be playing catch-up from a dig against a well-setup bolt-on/4.10 2V, and has a hard time getting to peak power from a roll. Without gears, it's very hard to utilize the extra power. No excuses here, just some info.

would rather go right to the trick flow heads than the PI ones.

You can pick up a pair of PI heads for $250 and then have them ported if you want... no way I would get TFS heads for a budget build.
