Almost 400whp Evo vs. Turbo 10' SS
I wasn't going to post this till I found the guy online. He works down the street from me and informed me he doesn't spend much time online so I've given up the search. We met on the highway a couple of weeks ago rolling side by side at around 60mph. He had swerved his way through traffic to get up next to me, giving me a good look at that FMIC through his front bumper....which I honestly thought would be the last view of the front bumper of that thing i'd ever see. He got up next to me, geared down and nodded. I followed suit as I downshift into 3rd and slowed to exactly (within speedo tolerances anyways) 60 mph. I brake boosted, honked three times and we went. I immediately jumped out about 2.5-3 cars. I held a steady fight until about 120-125mph where he came around me with a vengeance. After racing we pulled over to discuss the prior events. He told me he didnt expect anything out of my car so he wasnt spooled up, and had he been events probably would have been different. My evo did 392 on a mustang dyno and his SS did 695whp on a dynojet. So holding him off for that long felt good enough for me. Very clean and very quick car. Hopefully he finds his way in here and can give his side of the story.
Evo: 06 Evo IX SE (about 3150lbs) bolt ons, cammed, tuned at 30psi on E85, competition clutch twin disc with push conversion.
SS: 10 SS LS3/M6 (stock weight + turbo setup) (according to the owner) Stock spec forged LS3 with a Hellion turbo kit. Stock trans. Claimed it made 695whp at 14 psi on a dynojet on the same setup with stock block which exploded. Unsure what it made on forged block but according to him should be about the same.
In conclusion, I cant wait to get a bigger turbo on this thing or sell it and upgrade to a 911 turbo.

Jeff,
Can you explain to me how all these 3rd world evos claim to have 500-700awhp with 30-40psi? Yet 98% of them have been systematically smoked by a 120 trap c63 AMG?

Well, for starters, if they are running on Panama's crap *** fuel then they arent making 500-700whp. Also alot of the stock block evo guys will run higher hp numbers but tune it to keep the torque down under 500 since these things become a ticking time bomb around 500ft lbs. Im actually worried about mine as it is. Thirdly, alot of the evo guys have issues with not being able to shift quickly due to using single plate clutches and the synchros cant keep up causing high rpm lockout. You also dont know where they are making that peak number and what the curve looks like. Its just like anything else, ive seen cars with 200hp more than the other get freight trained. Id also be willing to bet most of them are blowing smoke up your *** with that number.

He went with a factory ls3 block with forged internals. Thats the extent of my knowledge.

I wouldnt say it was a kill. He came around me pretty hard about 120. Due to my stock turbo I run out of steam in 5th gear like nobodies business.

id be willing to put money that hes running a ported oem exhaust mani, fmic kit, and tuned on E85. They can make some pretty good numbers on the stock stuff. A setup very similar to mine went 10.6 on slicks in a little heavier car. Those 280 cams are pretty aggresive.

good race man! I have a few friends with EVO's and they don't seem to be very reliable. Is this normal or do you think they have crappy setups/ tunes? Below is a list of my friends cars that all blew up on stock blocks. None of them were really making that much power.
Evo 9 386rwhp on Mustang dyno. Pump gas 20G turbo on 93 tuned. - Blew up with 40k miles on it
Evo 9 37xrwhp on dynojet. Pump gas stock turbo with meth and cams - blew up with 12k miles
Evo 9 42Xrwhp on dynojet with Gt35 turbo on 93 pump gas . - blew up with 50k miles
Evo 8 361rwhp on dynojet with Evo 9 turbo on 93 pump gas, cams and 28psi - 60k miles and he is afraid its going to blow up
