ported/pullied 03 Cobra vs HCI 370 LQ9 "the rematch"
Okay some of you may remember my vid/thread of me racing my buddy's ported/pullied 03 Cobra with 3.73's and about 150 lbs of weight reduction. Anyways, last time we raced he had a 120-130 lb passenger and I had no passenger, but had the lighter aluminum LS1 stock block. So this time around I gained about a 100 lbs (via the iron LQ9) and he was 120-130 lighter making for a 220-230 lb difference on this particular runs vs last time. Basically out race weight during this particular run should be VERY similar!
Okay, for the first run he has a slight jump, and the second run I get a slight jump. Basically, either way he would pull me just a tad from the get go, but once I got past a 100 mph or so I would stop his pull, but could not reel him in...I basically would hang at his rear tire till 120-125 where I run out of gear. We wanted to do a nitrous run, but traffic was very heavy, and we couldn't get another run in.
The way the go pro was mounted doesn't really capture the details, but it's still better than nothing lol All in all i'm very happy with the new setup! Here is the vid. Enjoy!

They were good runs man! Sorry the gopro location wasn't ideal. Like I said tho I went into this racing almost positive you would pull me, hence why it was pointed forward. I wish I would have had a second camera to put in the front since you really never know even tho I'm still surprised! The first race doesn't really show much, second one shows the details and how close it really was.

Next time I go to a track will either be at our next track rental(not sure when that is, september/october sometime), or I'm going to ubly at the end of september as lots of local guys go there for one of their races. whichever one is first i'm going to do. I'm trying to avoid the track except for one more time so I dont completely wipe out my clutch in one season haha.

Yeah, the Cobra is clearly a tad faster for sure. But I do find it interesting that once i'm over the 100 mph range I basically seem to stop his pull more or less. I'm now wondering how different the race would have been if I had started at a little higher rpm. I'm sure he still would have got me, but i'm curious how much tighter it could have maybe been.

I was around 3800-4000 rpm roughly. With the new cam and setup peak torque is at 5k. What's interesting is that it holds within 8-10 rwtq from 4-6k. The old setup would drop off a bit sooner. Also my rev limiter appears to be at 6600-6700. I'm thinking it should be a tad higher, so I could shift right at that rpm

I know it makes for a quick shift for you, but I wouldn't start out at any lower than 4500 RPM from a roll like that. It should make a night and day difference versus starting out at 3800-4k.

Yeah I have to wonder that now. It seems like Greddy would pull me right away, and then it would slowly taper off as the race went on. This new cam really likes to rev it seems. I'll be adding a merge pipe this week as well, so hopefully that will help the flow a bit. This damn Pacesetter ORY really has no merge, and basically just slams one pipe into the other at a horrible angle. Hopefully we'll get another chance sometime soon...both n/a and N20 this time

we need to go scout out a little for some good spots to race with no traffic. getting a 20ish roll on the highway wont happen unless we meet up late some weekend night. Which I wouldn't be apposed to if that's something we needed to do. only sucky thing there is gotta do night time vids lol.

Greddy there are some great places out by me in the country, but that's a bit far for you I know. As crazy as it sounds, i've had some great runs on 23 on my way to Milan lol. Not nearly as crowded on that freeway, and there are some very open stretches along the way

I have no problem traveling a bit man, I can come out to brighton/howell next time if you know of a few good places. I mean the car gets 24mpg so it's a good cruise machine
