ZL1 Versus GT500

I'm sure it was just a replacement for a damaged stock piece. That's makes it stock. You're good to go!

I know! I see posts everyday where a GT500 and a ZL1 have their **** airlifted over to the Ring and settle their dispute that way About as relevant as saying it would handle better on Mars...how many of the dudes saying that are even going to test their car there?

I hear ya, but I'm referring to road course track days. I have yet to see a ZL1 at a road course or autox event tearing it up as members here continue to point out. I think the "it's faster at the ring" reference is an irrelevant topic here in SRK.

SRK = straight line racing

^^ its true. There is this guy in town that I know with a zl1 and he wouldn't race me (n/a). The thing That I don't get is why would you spend 50k on a car and be afraid to run it? I know the gt 500 guys wouldn't be afraid. And he actually said "lets go to the circle track". This is a big defeat for chevy. we just need to own it and move on. hopefully Gm will amp the zr1 up enough that they can do the same to the Camaro and it will be a better match. I'll be honest I'd really love to buy the zl1 but the only reason I don't is bc of all of this haha, and I sure as hell can't break down and get the snake. so I'll have to wait until gm gets their head together.

I'm not into road racing, so I have no idea if it has merit; but I saw on another site a guy that is an instructor at VIR say that the ZL1's are not legal for class racing due to the magnetic suspension.

Agreed with most above posts. SRK is for the F&F roll racers, stop-light heroes, and in general straight line performance.
Because it matters not to the posters here, does not mean others don't find it important. Take for instance the Corvette I chose to own. It is fully setup for the road course, has been raced, and will continue to race it in Vintage class. No it won't beat the 100 people who come up to me with their "uncle's 1000hp Bla Bla Bla" but it holds its own quite well against Ford GT40s on a road course.

$1600.00 for a complete set of wheels and tires for the track. Not too bad.

Anyone with a ZL1 or Z28 is going to be far, far more likely to go do an HPDE than actually compete in competitive wheel to wheel racing. I'm sure not being class won't deter very many people looking to track one.
