Default Luck or fair and square?

1 month ago at about 10 pm me and a friend was riding down highway 1960 looking to find races. I know that 1960 isnt the best place to race, but thats about the only place you can find nice cars in my area. So were crusing 1960 when a 88 cobra comes up next to me and just stares me down. So i give him the same back.

I look back at the light and await a green light. The light truns green and i spin for a second, but get traction and go, meanwhile the Cobra was still spinning his tires for quite a distance. It appears that i won right? We catch another light and i ask him how much is he pushing and he said he just got back from the army and bought it like this so he haden't had the time to dyno it. Then he had told me the only reason i had won was because he couldn't get traction.

Vehicle description: 88 Cobra, Big Hood , Shift lights , very loud sounding, huge tires. So based on that, do you all think i had him, or did i just get lucky?

rotfl .... if you were ahead when you both decided to shut down, you won ... "fair and square." Being able to drive a car with a lot of horsepower and being able to put it to the ground effectively is just as important as having a faster car. A 1000hp car that runs a traction limited 13 second quarter is just the same as a 300 hp car that runs a perfect 13 second quarter, IMO.

Btw, I seriously doubt he was putting down any big power, but you never know with the 5.0's ....

Did it have a lot of primer and different colored body panels? It's the damn white/ primer gray ones that all have blowers and nitrous. If his car was all one color I'm sure you would stomp him even with traction

Cobra production resumed in 1993,
Continued through 2000. (skipped year 2000 with exception of Cobra R)
Resumed 2001 skipped 2002 (I think)
2003-2004 production

So was it an 88 Mustang with Cobra body panels?
A 1978 Cobra (they look like a Pinto)
A 1998 Cobra (slower than Whale ****)

All i know was it had the big Cobra hood and a huge tach inside, midnight black paint, and huge tires. Never got to see the back.

A fox bodied cobra(1993) came with a factory flat hood just like the GTs and LXs. FYI....

if it really was an 88 5.0L based car, then you have about an extra 100hp or so on him before he starts modding. he's a bit lighter, but not tremendously so. i doubt he had significantly more power than you. it's easy to make a mustang loud... throw on some flowmasters and take out the cats. also, big shift light and gauges = ricer speed increases, not real ones. the one that gets me though is you said he had "big tires". if he had good tires and still couldn't get traction, he either doesn't know how to drive his own car, or was drunk and flooring it for no particularly good reason.

when you both shut down at the same time if he was an inch behind your bumper you won....it doesnt matter if he blew his engine.....you still won
