Default Did I do alright?

Well some good 'ol fashion action happened last night and it felt great. My buddy has a C5 M6 with a cat-back on it. Good driver. We decided to do a highway run 70mph and up. So I pulled up my SS M6 with a lid..thats it. We both jumped at the same and were dead even. I mean dead even. I eventually let off and he kept going. I was very happy considering he is 10x better a M6.

This was me

Nice kill ... tho I'm not really sure how much shifting you had to do considering you started at 70mph ....

Yup not bad at all, considering he has a good weight advantage on you

Really good. Everytime Ive ever encountered a vette..a few things happened. I held ground from xxmph to ~100mph, driver was impressed, and after 100mph aerodynamics kicked my *** and the vette would just pull and pull.

Hmm...either your buddy didnt downshift or he isnt as good a driver as you think, but with the big weight and aerodynamic advantage Im surprised the c5 didnt pull away from you especially since you were already doing 70mph.

I'm not surprised. From a roll, the weight difference will be a relatively trivial factor. I've had 2 different experiences almost exactly the same as this one against C5's in my 2000 stock SS (well...stock except the K&N) A4. Dead even from about 60 all the way up to around 120 where I let off. I know eventually the aerodynamics will allow the Vette to start pulling gently away, but, with the same engine and the same tranny (right?), it would be surprising if any stock LS1 would simply walk right away from any other.

Just my three cents worth. (Inflation.)

Unfortunately the only F-body's I have raced have been modified...So I cant comment on stock F-body vs stock Y-body racing... However, I have raced my neighbor who owned a 01 CLK55 AMG (5.4l V8) which is rated at 345hp/376tq and a curb weight about 3600lbs. Keep in mind, for a 99 C5 manufacturer's specs are 345hp/350tq, ~3225lbs (coupe) and ~3173lbs (Hardtop). The weight on a Z28 is ~3400lbs. The race between my neighbor and I went from 70 roll - and up till about 85 I pulled ever so slightly...from then on to about 130 I walked away (He purchased his 02 Z06 a week later ). Granted the gearing maybe different on the benz, but the roughly 200lbs and aerodynamic advantage the c5 has on the f-body should at least let him pull on you a tad. On top of that, you said he has a cat-back, and is saving about 20-30lbs depending on what exhaust he went with.

No real weight difference.

The aerodynamic difference isn't really much to speak of either.

This is the expected outcome.

How can you say there is no weight or aerodynamic difference between the two cars? Have you looked at a corvette lately?

3300 vs 3350 isn't much of a difference

The drag coefficient is very similar between the cars.

Have you weighed both cars or looked up the CD lately?

Very Similar?? We have a closer CD to a mustang than we do a Corvette.

.29 vs .34 ...mustang is .36. Thats more than a marginal difference.

Of course a vert vette is .32, but you get me point.

Yeah C/D for a C5 coupe is .29; FRC is .31. For a Z28 is .34 I dont see where you get the weights you have... a C5 coupe is 3225lbs - 20 lbs for the change of exhaust + 10-15hp as well. A Z28 is 3400 lbs..I dont understand...thats 200lbs difference anyway you cut it, no matter what scale you use...and Im not talking about a stripped out f-body vs a stock vette. Thats the only way you would get an f-body down to 3400lbs or below. Stock they actually tip the scales closer to 3500...

Actually he is a very good driver. We went at it again like 4 different times yesterday...and the exact same thing dead even. Expressway,40mph rolls and a dead launch. Dead even everytime.

well, stock vs. stock, the cars have about the same HP... because the LS1 in the f-bod is so underated... While the C/D is decently different, I can see this race happening, with these results, especially if the race wasnt taken too fast, because I dont think that the aerodynamics difference is going to make that drastic a difference until you get to higher speeds, but I could be wrong. Also, the vette could be "weaker" or not running 100% and/or the SS could have been a bit stronger than most(every car is slightly different) and running really well. What speed did you take the race up to?
