Got killed by some huge old Buick!
I was cruising in the '98 around 60mph when I looked over and saw this old guy in a HUGE, old convertable four door car next to me trying to light a cigarette. He stayed even with me, finished lighting up, smiled and jumped a little, so I went to third and punched it. He punched it and OMGod I have never heard such a loud beast in my life. That car dusted me, I mean he left me like I was standing still, I let off in desperation at around 90, he had a good 20 car lengths on me.
He slowed down and I kind of got closer to see what it was. It was a buick, and on the front quarter panel it had a small, chrome "455" emblem.
The buick emblem was on the passenger side rear, and the drivers side rear had the model name, but I cannot remember what is was, but it was a long name, but I just cannot remember.
Can anyone identify this beast? I am guessing a late '60's, early 70's model.
Anyways, that beast was loud and FAST!!

That is awesome! Not for you of course, but I love those big old cars with power. It's amazing to see those tanks fly like that. It had to be 1970 or older. GM never put 454s in intermediates until they lifted the rule of no more then 1 horsepower per 10 pounds. I'm guessing a 1970-72 Buick Grand Sport but I don't think they came in 4 doors did they? Maybe it wasn't because the coupes came on a shorter wheelbase then the 4 doors. Was it stock looking? With those badges I would assume so. Well anyway don't be ashamed, you lost to one sweet beast. Very honorable death.

I have looked at the Grand Sports and it does not look like those, this thing was longer, and had the four doors, and was a convertable. You could tell the old guy enjoys going around killing youngsters.

I agree with transamman400...it was probably a '70-'72 GS. The 455 engine came in a couple of different versions. A standard-compression model, and a high-compression model. I don't know if Buick offered both types, or not. But on the 442, you could tell the high-compression version from the standard by the hood scoops. The high-po unit had them, the standard 455 did not.
I had a '71 442 at one time, so yeah...they're beasts on the highway. But, trying to shut one down quickly, or braking in a turn, will give you severe sphincter pucker. It's been 26 years since I sold that 442, and I'm STILL picking vinyl seat material outta my ***.

Well let's rule out these possibilities...(my Buick knowledge is limited and couldn't find any solid info)
Know it couldn't be a Riviera if it was a 4 door.
Not a GS, so that would include Skylark and Regal.
Perhaps a LeSabre Custom Convertible? They were giants and I believe were 4 doors. I'll do a search for Oldsmobile since I'm sure there will be more solid info on that. What is the LeSabre's Oldsmobile sibling? If I could find that out it might help identifying this beast.

Did it resemble anything like this? This is 1971 Cadillac DeVille but if it looks like it this is probably the Cadillac sister of the Buick.

The Skylark was shorter, I do not think that was it.
The older cars are fast. I was given a 70' Grand Prix with the 455 for my 16th birthday and it hauled *** and beat most every ride I raced. Definately a sleeper.
Anyhow, Nice Death.
I am sure someone will post a pic of a possible and then we will know.

That is looking familiar, but the tail lights were horizontal and not vertical, and the tail lights were above the bumper.....I got a good look at them .
I told two guys at work what the model was yesterday at lunch when this happened, but they cannot remember what I said either, it seemed like a dorky name for a fast car.
It was not the skylark or any variation of that, because my brother has a 1971 skylark and I would know that look right away. I think this was a '60's car, all in all that car I put the link to in my second post looks the closest of all.

four door boat could be a buick special, a skylark or skylark custom, a lesabre, a wildcat (most of them had the 435 though) or the electra. that's all of the buick 4 door big cars look them up till you find the one it was.

hey dude, that's an awsome "death" i've got a 1970 buick electra 225 with a 455 4bbl.....350hp and 510 lbs of torque STOCK.....these things weigh close to 5k as the 225 stands for 225 inches long.....mine's a two door custom with only 48,000 miles on it and i love it.......first car i ever drove when my grandpa owned it....i've heard of this car in my exact configuration running a 15.4 stock.......i've thought about making it the ultimate sleeper, but the cost is gonna keep me from doing that for a few years......besides, i got a 98' z28 to work on as well......did it look anything like this? http://www.collectorcarads.com/Picture2/MVC-005F.JPG but with four doors? check out the wagon on www.taperformance.com they aren't a sponsor, but they don't really compete with ls1 guys too much, other than they make the best rear end girdles.........i love old buicks too
