Default 5.Br0down

snake95 came into town this weekend to kick it so we got some friendly street runs in between his 1986 mild H/C 302 and my 2013 Coyote A6. The Coyote has Kooks longtubes, off road xpipe, tune, and an aluminum driveshaft. Snake's car has been 11.9@116 in the 1/4 thus far.

We ran on street tires from 40-125 and ended the race with me about 1 car ahead. It was a lot of fun and a close race. Every time I'd shift, he'd inch closer, every time he'd shift, I'd inch out further. I must say that I am impressed how my car fared and how his car hung in there as the speed got higher. It really goes to show that his car runs strong for a mild H/C 302 setup.

Definitely fun races. Impressed with Marc's car for sure! We had to postpone the dig run because the guy we planned to borrow jack and impact wrench from wasn't home. My shitty scissor jack is broken anyway for my spare. Next time he is in my home town we will do the dig. The good thing about no dig is that I didn't break my tranny 6.5 hours from home

Before I add any more power, the transmission has to be addressed. This bitch is hard to get in gear after any hard runs.

Marc is a stall away from running 11s. We both think my car would win from a dig, but this roll was awesome to see the top end of the Coyote motors.

Sounds like fluid and pressure plate

The transmission was rated for 260 tq at the flywheel, I make 341 at the tire.

I've taken the dust cover off, ran it hard, and checked. It disengaged fine, it just takes more time to get into gear after hard runs. The internals weren't designed for the power I'm applying to it is all.

It's a cable clutch, not hydraulic so no fluid. Tranny fluid is GM Synchromesh which I've had nothing but awesome results with. New fluid as of July.

Good run guys! Snake, you did good considering that it is difficult to shift faster than an auto trans. I have come to the realization that is virtually impossible especially with a stall and the trans shift points maximized.

GM Synchromesh is good stuff! I use that also with a 24oz bottle of Lucas Trans Fix in my TR3650. It makes for some nice smooth shifts.

Mappin, yes it is the ****-5.

MACH, the runs were very fun. Those Coyotes pull like monsters up top. I trapped 116 so my car is no slouch up top, but Marc's car runs very well for such simple mods.

Jeez... hopefully it doesn't stop chirping hard gear shifts

You likey the third gear chirp?!!?

I have one from my old Cobra in the garage if this one goes. It's rated at like 310 or so, so better, but still not where I need it.

I'm going to just start saving my pennies for a T56 swap. I love the idea of a six speed in the fox.

Snake's shifts were good. He was really tempted to power shift it but didn't feel like destroying his transmission 6-1/2 hours away from home.

But yes, my shifts with the tune are very firm and quick. Stock stall and stock 3.15 gears for now.

Poor t-5

Add a 6 to protect the 5. Much cool t-56 swap Fox

Or run low 11s with stalled automatic
