Default Sad day for drag racing fans in Houston, TX.

BAYTOWN, Texas (July 14) -- When the final pair of Top Fuel dragsters roar down Houston Raceway Park Powered by Pennzoil at the conclusion of the 2022 NHRA national event, the echoing thunder of their combined 22,000-plus horsepower will signal the end of an era in Texas motorsports history.

Immediately following the event, the new property owners will repurpose the drag racing complex into an industrial business park.

That sucks! I'm hearing rumors that the same thing is happening to Palm Beach International Raceway... going to become a Walmart distribution center. Guess drag racing just cant compete with the $ involved in big business.

A real bummer! We dont have any other 1/4 mile tracks in the area. Its either SAR or Ennis now.

Found this to be the closest but not sure if it's open to the public on Friday nights like HRP was.

I haven't heard anything yet but I do know they are actively looking and not just cancelling it lol

My guess is that it will be at the Texas mile OR Texas Motor Speedway. I doubt they will use that Kennedale track lol

Pick your spots wisely and don't be a dumb ***.

If you can't follow them basic rules, then you deserve the legal issues.

Don't get me started but all this proves is that money is truly evil and people are all about the money. The owners of the facility knew that developing the property into separate commercial properties will make it more lucrative and didn't care about the consequences. I've never ran a chain of title on the lands to find out ownership but somewhere along the line it fell into the wrong hands or should I say money grubbing hands. Chambers County loves it too because now there's more properties to tax. Property was once owned by Seth Angel/Royal Purple Raceway and Houston Raceway Park but is now owned by Chambers County Logistics Terminal LP.

Same thing happened to the 1/8th mile track in Sanger, TX (about 30 mins north of Dallas). Owner sold it and the new owners turned it into a semi-truck overnight stop and RV park.

As of now the only track in Houston for people to legally race their cars will be the 1/8 at Houston Motorsports Park. NHRA Drag Racing in Houston will be no more and this falls under the category of a kill story to me which was why I posted.

Many legends of drag racing have signed this hat! I've had it for over thirty years and I wore it proudly at every Final Eliminator we attended. Seth Angel you have sold out a legacy built buy your family and you say your going to dust off your resume? I say what resume. The company that now owns it is from Belgium.
