also known as gear selector D, you will run out of gas at 125 mph as I have in my Z28, that's when, then you want to move the gear selctor -in an auto matic- to (D) a.k.a. 4th gear and walk the other car down other wise you will stay at 125mph or so.

I once raced a 2003 Lexus ###'s something, something - the 2 seater, the one that are corvette price and looks like a two seater -, anyways I had just gotten into a main road and only he and I were on the rode - upon entering onto the road I took the turn fast on to the road - and this Lexus that I was about to pass hit the gas. I noticed this so I stepped on it too and with in few seconds we were a 125 mph, he keep his lead. I was at his rear quater panel and I was stunned and confused as to why I could not get past 125 mph. So I let off the gas then stomped it to the floor, it now pulled me next to his door mirror, but still I could not get past him or 125 mph, I was staring with amazment at my mph gauges. So he shuts it down then I do the same. So Im know entering the freeway and thinking about what just happened, 'why would my Camaro not hit past 125mph?'. I then find this site and later on ask a question as to why did my car not respond faster then 125 mph.

When I mentioned that I was in gear selector D, I got a respond that gear selectore D, is 3rd gear and I had ran out of gas and should have shifted into (D) a.k.a 4th gear for more mph. Then it all made sence. Because even before this one race, I would like to drop to gear selctor D and when i felt like the car didn't pass 125 mph I let off and thought something was wrong, never nowing I was out of gas -mph- in 3rd gear. Know I keep her in 4th gear a.k.a (D) every since and no problems now winning a race.

I know a lot of people already now this but some may not know that 3rd gear a.k.a, gear selector D, runs out of gas at 125 and that's when you want to shift up to (D) a.k.a. 4th gear . Hopefully this is useful information.

 

nice kill. I would save up for a converter if you already dont have one. It makes racing much easier and would put a lot more kills under your belt. Good luck and drive safe!

 

But isnt it true that some stalls kill your opportunities to race on a roll? I read that somewhere before...That a stall was great from a dig but, depending on the stall rate, may be hurtful from a roll.

 

I think it depends on your roll speed. I still have a dead zone in the 40-60mph range with my stall but everything did increase a little even the dead zone was helped by it I think. Of course I did the cam at the same time so it's hard for me to judge. I know when I was stock and went from a roll against my friend who had tuning and a stall he would pull a little on the roll. I guess it may all depend from what speed you're going could've been he had removed torque management too and I didnt I dunno.

 

Stall should make racing from a roll MUCH faster.

Also, what gears to you have that your 1:1 gear is running out at 125?

 

I have 3.23 gears, and an automatic transmisson. I might have run out of gas/mph a hair above 125 mph in 3rd gear but not much more. I now know, at least with my car, put the gear shifter in 4th gear (D) when I want to hit over 150mph. Fastest I've gone is 152 possible 153 before I let off the gas due to traffic in front of me.

 

You are lying. 3rd gear in your car should good to over 140 mph. If you are hitting the 125 mph speed limiter, you have never been to 153 mph.

So you're saying that his speed limiter kicked in at the exact same time that yours did ? If you hit your speed limiter at 125 mph and he didn't immediately pull away like a bastard then his car had to have hit it's speed limiter at the exact same time ??

 

the 2 seater lexus is a sc430. Not exactly quick, but according to car and driver, the top speed is 156 (electronically limited). In plain terms, governor. It does seem that you have a limitor on the car. You should have no problems doing over 125 in 3rd.

If you would have just said you couldn't get past 125 we would have told you what was going on.

 

Like I said, the car would not advance past 125 mph in 3rd gear. Just remember I said in 3rd gear, I could not hit past 125. In 4th gear I have gone up to 152-3.

Some one mentioned I should have been able to hit up to 140 mph in 3rd gear, well from my experiance my car -repeat- could not go past 125mph in 3rd gear.

Why the Lexus didn't go faster since he could have according to car and driver specs? I belive he was contemp with the lead and nowing he still had some more gas/mph left.

Have you tried maxing out 3rd gear in your automatic LS1 Camaro?

 

I forgot to mention my car DID NOT have a speed limiter.

 

you are either A:lying or B:stupid. the 1.1 ratio of a 4l60e trans 3rd gear coupled with a stock 25-26" tall tire and 3:23 gears should allow you to hit between 142-146 before you hit the rev limiter and would need to shift to 4th depending on which tire height you have. do the math thank you and pay at the second window.

Are you talking about a fuel starvation problem in higher <sustained> RPM's? Clogged fuel filter, weak pump, dirty injectors/filter?? I have an auto A4 that has seen well past 125 in third.

 

a higher stall converter lets your car spool up to where it actually makes power much faster, ie 3000 or so, so from a roll you'll be a lot faster, as well as a dead dig

 

I don't think anything was wrong as you mentioned. I guess all automatic LS1's are different. I got the code GU5 on my door panel so I know I got the 3.23 gears. I haven't gone past 100mph in a long time maybe once the rain stops I will check again at what speed 3rd gear tops out in my car, to see if it differs from the last time.
